I had heard that DeRo was going to work out at some point today and then the Cubs would determine if he is good to go on Wednesday. It sounds like he wants to play but Lou is unsure. Of course DeRo is going to say he is ready. There should be confirmation at some point today.

Mark DeRosa said Sunday that he expects to be "ready to go" for the playoffs after testing his injured left calf with pregame running.

DeRosa sat out the final four regular season games. ''I would have loved to have played today, but err on the side of caution," DeRosa said. "There's no sense in going out there and reaggravating it.''

MILWAUKEE - Most of the Cubs will enjoy Monday off before Tuesday's workout at Wrigley Field.

 

But two key ingredients, Mark DeRosa and Carlos Zambrano, will report to work Monday.

 

DeRosa ran Sunday for the first time since straining his left calf Wednesday in New York, hoping to show enough that he'll be available for Game 1 against the Dodgers at Wrigley Field.

 

"He'll be ready Wednesday," manager Lou Piniella said. "Let's just say we think he'll be ready Wednesday. We think."

 

DeRosa was surprised to hear that. He insisted there was no chance he would not be ready Wednesday.

 

"I feel like I'll be ready to go," he said. "There is no question at all."
