It doesn't seem like a big enough deal to warrant any media attention. It only applies to title-clinching games.

and there's no way it'll happen.

How much beer sales can there even be in the two innings leading up to a clinch? That's not exactly the ideal beer consuming time.

I could see that being a great drinking time...whether there's a huge lead and a need to celebrate, or a nailbiter and people drinking out of fear/anxiety.

It would suck not to remember the ends of those games, but I guarantee that a lot of people will be wanting to get very inebriated at that point.

Your words are foreign to me.

Those citizens will get together and say, ‘I’m gonna vote every precinct dry. I’ll even vote Cubs Field dry," Daley said.

What the Howry is Cubs Field?

In fairness, he still calls U.S. Cellular "Sox Park."

It's nothing but political pandering. There's no way they could enforce it even if they wanted to.

It's not like a totally unprecedented idea. Don't many if not most ballparks, or other sporting stadiums for that matter, cut of alcohol sales at some point before the end of the game?

I mean if the Cubs clinch in Wrigley, no doubt there is going to be a crazy mob and a lot of public damage, there are a lot of idiots out there. Cutting off sales isn't the only way to help prevent it. They'll need to beef up security big time.

Daley is worried about Chicago's chances for hosting the Olympics in 2016

The potential celebration if/as the Cubs progress deeper into the playoffs does get a little scary

There are always a few knuckleheads who overdo things and we have 100 years pent up for a real celebration

The reality is wether they cut off booze sales for an hour or two will not change the outcome - when the Cubs will the WS this town will go ape#### crazy

I for one plan on joining in

Go Cubs

Did Daley do this in 2005 when his White Sox were in the playoffs? NO!! I feel like giving Mayor Daley an angry finger right now, and I don't even drink and I'm not 21

We're just lucky that Farnsworth is long gone. If they stopped serving after the top of the 7th...he wouldn't be available to pitch the top of the 7th. :-))

Damn, that was post 2000. Only took me five years to get there! Haha.

This isn't about Wrigley Field, where I'm pretty sure they do cut off after the seventh, this is about the bars around Wrigley, which only have to abide by what the city liquor laws state. This crap that Daley is trying to do smacks of him just continuing his war against the Cubs.

How is it not? If the Cubs are up 8-1 in the 7th inning of game 7 of the world series... I'm chugging anything in sight.

I realize that its about the bars and not Wrigley, but the general idea of "let's cut off the fans before the end of the game" idea isn't like something completely new. Realistically any fans at the bars in Wrigleyville will be an extension of the fan base at the actual stadium.

No matter what they do though, everyone is going to go crazy when the Cubs win a big series, and some idiots will take it too far, even if they haven't drank for two innings.

If the Cubs go to the WS, win or lose, Chicago is NOT getting the Olympics. Bet on it.

Very true. I hope Chicago doesn't get them either. Why spend all this money on crap, when you could spend that money to fix the CTA

Like this is ever going to happen. Daley doesn't realize that Wrigleyville now is not the Wrigleyville of 20 years ago with families and longtime residents fighting against lights and night games. Now it's college kids and party people moving into the neighborhood specifically for the bars and the restaurants. No way the neighborhood will vote it dry.
