Daley is worried about Chicago's chances for hosting the Olympics in 2016

If the Cubs go to the WS, win or lose, Chicago is NOT getting the Olympics. Bet on it.

Very true. I hope Chicago doesn't get them either. Why spend all this money on crap, when you could spend that money to fix the CTA

The Olympics would likely mean an upgraded CTA

i imagine that this would have at least some isolated effect, but the costs politically and economically seem to far outweigh the very limited benefits it may provide.

either way, the city should prepare for a riot

Heard on WBBM that bar owners have agreed to suspended alcohol sales after the 7th inning of potential series clinching games only.

Looks like I'm taking flask(s) with me every World Series game, then.

This city is ridiculous. I read something the other day that Chicago was rated to have the least freedom of any American city, and this is proof.

Some of the many examples:

-No cell phone use while driving

-Strictest smoking laws in the country

-No alcohol served at strip clubs

-Foie Gras banned at restaurants

-Tax on bottled water

-More public surveillance cameras than any city other than NYC

-More red light cameras than any city in the US

-25% of all Chicago precincts are alcohol free (not many know this)

-Banning alcohol sales during some Cubs games?!

I don't understand what they expect to accomplish with it. Like people aren't going to be in the bars celebrating after a final out? Stopping alcohol being sold(not drunk) for one hour is going to do nothing. All it's going to do is spike alcohol sales in the 6th inning.

Exactly. People will just load up to make sure they don't run out.

And I don't know. It seems to me that many fans won't get as drunk during a potential clinching game. Maybe I'm overestimating my fellow fan, but if I'm watching a game where we could win the NLCS or WS, I'll almost be too nervous to drink.

Everyone is just going to leave the bars after the 7th and bring their own alcohol, this is stupid... and if I was a bar owner I would remain open if they had a choice (which I believe they did).

They had a choice, but its not in their interests to go against Daley. they basically got strong armed into accepting.

So in the 6th inning, everyone is just going to buy 6 beers and do a round of shots right?

For double the price, yep.

I don't care if everyone was sober... if the Cubs were to win the WS here in Chicago there would be riots regardless.

I can't say that I have a problem with any of those things. The cell phone, strip club, camera and alcohol issues are all issues of safety. The smoking ban could be argued that it's a public health issue, which is kinda crap, but the smoke is annoying to most of the non-smokers. I don't really care one way or another about the foie gras or water tax, but I don't have a problem with not inhumanely killing geese or getting the city some revenue from people that buy water when they probably have a perfectly working tap at home.

I think you're overestimating a vast majority of your fellow fans. I'll probably be like you, but I doubt many will.

What? Do you mean they're going to go home or they're going to go into the streets? Because if they go home to drink, there's no problem for the city. If they go on the streets with their own flasks, they won't see the last 2 innings.

Since the bars won't be selling alcohol after the 7th inning, it will encourage people to pile into the streets where it is much safer.

That's going to happen anyway, and like I mentioned above anyone going into the streets during the 8th or 9th is going to miss the game. Personally I don't have a problem with it. Sure there will still be plenty of drunk people in the streets and bars after the game, but an hour of sobriety is better to curb stupid drunken behaviour than an hour of more drinking. I do agree that sales will spike in the 6th and 7th, but there's only so many people that bartenders can serve anyway. The city, and especially that area, is going to be nuts if they clinch the NLCS or WS, I don't see the harm in attempting to control the crowds. I can drink any other day for the rest of my life, why do I need one or two more beers in me to celebrate what is already going to be one of the happier moments I've ever had?
