Tennessee, as expected, pretty much looked like crap. The defense actually played a good game, holding Tebow below 100 yards passing and Harvin below 100 yards receiving.

Problem is, the offense was utterly inept. Montario Hardesty and Jonathon Crompton each fumbled on Tennessee's first two offensive possessions - resulting in Florida getting the ball each time. The personal foul penalty on UT's first drive was complete and utter crap, though. Even still, Hardesty has to be able to hold onto the football on a screen pass.

Also, why in the sweet world did Phil Fulmer think it was even a little bit of a decent idea to punt the ball to freaking Brandon James? Kick the ball out of bounds - not to arguably the best punt returner in college football. That TD return by James was the dagger, in my opinion. The fans still could have gotten behind the Vols enough for them to turn the game around until Cunningham and Fulmer decided to punt the ball to James.

I'm becoming very worried about whether Crompton's going to "get it." He hasn't shown much improvement since the UCLA debacle and even had no concept of the playclock or game clock Saturday. He was missing wide open receivers and making inexplicably dumb decisions all day long. Problem is, since we lost Casey Kelly to the Red Sox, there's nobody worth replacing him with. Nick Stephens and B.J. Coleman are nice enough backups, but I don't know that they're starters.

This season is in danger of falling apart.

EDIT: Let me add that Saturday only reinforced my opinion that Florida is the most talented team in the SEC and probably the second most talented team in the nation behind USC. They are an extremely talented and dangerous team. And it disgusts me to say that.

From the Star Press:

According to the Ball State athletics department, "Dante Love was examined by a team of neurosurgeons, who consulted with the Ball State medical and athletic training staffs, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Dante underwent surgery early Sunday morning, which lasted approximately five hours."

Dr. Jay Matchett, Ball State team physician and orthopedic surgeon, said in a statement: “Dante Love suffered a cervical spine fracture and spinal cord injury which required surgery to stabilize the fracture. He is currently moving all four extremities.”

His football career is over, but how great to hear that he is otherwise ok.

3 straight SEC teams in front of Mizzou, that's no fun. It'd be less annoying if my homer self didn't think we'd beat each of them by at least 2 touchdowns.

That's pretty funny.

It speaks volumes about how bad that Buffalo (and to a larger extent the MAC) is that I took it as a moral victory that it took until a little past halfway into the 3rd quarter for Mizzou to totally put Buffalo away.

It's sick that Georgia is getting first place votes but OU isnt.

Sick, but expected. SEC sportswriters are delusional and Big 12 sportswriters tend not to be.

I believe you have that backwards.......Big 12 sportwriters tend to be more delusional. Atleast the SEC has the teams to back it up....

Darren McFadden finished 2nd in the Heisman voting in 2006 when he barely played in the team's most important game, which by the way, they lost by 56. Splits showed that he was voted 1st at a wildly disproportionate rate in the Southeast.

SEC sportswriters win.

I still say McFadden should have won the Heisman over Tebow last year, but I don't think that makes me delusional in favor of the SEC. :D

What people who don't follow the SEC don't know is that Tim Tebow is an incredibly overrated player. Not to mention he's just about the only offensive player Urban Meyer will trust with the ball (even tho he does have Percy Havin). The simpliest truth is the Darren McFadden has been the SEC best offensive player for 2 yrs in a row, an you can make the case he's been college football best offensive player for 2 yrs. In other words.....McFadden was last yr's Heisman Trophy Winner. The only reason why he didn't win it, is because he played for Arkansas, not some school like Florida.

Kirk Ferentz, Ken O'Keefe and Jake Christensen completely lost the game today by themselves.

Absolutely unreal to not go back to Stanzi for one snap in the second half.

I still don't get the Stanzi love. he's really not any better. our offensive line was terrible with their pass protection today, and Pitt had pretty good coverage when either QB was given time to throw. they had no business losing that game today and should have won by at least 10. Shonn Greene should have been given the damn ball on the 2nd to last series instead of passing every down.

I couldn't disagree more.

How do you figure Stanzi isn't any better? You really don't notice a HUGE improvement in accuracy and decisiveness between the two? That's absolute craziness. How many bounce passes has Ricky thrown? Many of Jake's completions (2-3 more today) are in bad spots where guys have to slide to catch them.

The o-line wasn't that bad. Jake's lack of decisiveness cost us 2-3 sacks because he got happy feet and panicked.

I figure Stanzi isn't better because he's not. both have been inconsistent to terrible in stretches this season. we must have been watching a different game if you think the o-line wasn't that bad. they did a great job with the run, and I'd give them a D for their pass protection, though it did improve as the game went on

You know he's not better because he had a bad stretch in one game during his first career start in terrible weather? When else has he been terrible or inconsistent in any game?

As far as the o-line, I think you've already shown that you're watching a different game than everyone else. Re-watch the game and look at the sacks. There were maybe 3 legit sacks on the day. One of them was Greene making a poor block in pass pro. Jake took 2-3 sacks because of his happy feet and indecisiveness yet again.

So you really do not feel that Stanzi is a more accurate passer? You really do not feel he puts more touch on the ball? You really do not feel that he makes quicker decisions? How many times have you seen Stanzi bounce a routine 8-yard pass for a first down?

Most importantly Stanzi CLEARLY performed better in the first half of yesterday's game and it wasn't close. Yet he didn't get a snap in the second half. We've seen what Jake is and what he will be. He's now played 17 games and even though the entire supporting cast around him is improved, he is performing exactly the same and has the exact same weaknesses.

Stanzi isn't going to be All-Big Ten or anything but Christensen is the worst college QB I've ever seen. He can't throw more than 20 yards down field making the only thing he can do decently (throw short passes) completely useless.

As far as being an NFL prospect, I think Tebow may be a bit overrated. He's a terrific college QB, though, and is perfectly suited to the spread option.

The problem I have with Tebow winning it last year is that he put up awesome stats with awesome talent. McFadden was the only option on his team (save Felix Jones on occasion) and still put up terrific numbers. I don't think he gets enough credit for carrying Arkansas on his back last season.
