The Brewers batting with the bases loaded are DFL in average .202 and RBI 62. Putting it in perspective the Cubs are batting .321 good for 4th best, and 146 RBI which leads the majors.

I was browsing through the Baseball History thread and saw a pic of Mantle and Oh, and I got nostalgic and re-looked up The Mick's stats...

I never realized that despite being an incredible power hitter with 500+ HR's, he only eclipsed 100RBI in a season 4 times in his career.

When I saw that I was kind of shocked, I never realized that

They mentioned this during the game today and I thought it was surprising:

Jesus Flores leads the Nationals with 59 RBI, despite going on the DL back in July and only having played in 90 games this season.

Jay Bruce has struck out 101 times in 389 AB already.

Was he as big a whiffer in the minors?

Yup, and he won't get any better with Dusty as his coach.

He might get "better" in the sense that he'll K less. He'll become a worse hitter though as he starts making weak contact instead of striking out.

The Yankees streak of 13 straight postseason appearances was snapped tonight with the Red Sox clinching a playoff berth and they showed this on SportsCenter:

Franchises that have existed EVERY YEAR of World Series era (i.e. since 1903) with fewer than 13 playoff appearances:

Reds 12

Tigers 12

Twins 12

Orioles 11

Indians 10

Phillies 10

White Sox 8

That is amazing.

Considering there are only 16 teams that have existed this long, yes. The rest of the list:

Pirates 14

Cubs 15

Red Sox 19

Braves 20 (after 14 in a row prior to 2006)

Cardinals 22

Giants 23

Athletics 23

Dodgers 24

Yankees 47

EDIT: One more step into math geek land...Since the inception of the World Series, there have been a total of 167 playoff teams in each league (1 per year from 1903-1968 minus no 1904 series (65), 2 per year from 1969-1993 (50), 4 per year from 1995-2007 (52)), and the Yankees have represented 47 of them, or 28% of them.

If you told me during ST that Cliff Lee was going to be the best pitcher in baseball this year and Choo was going to put up those kind of numbers, yet the Indians would maybe be a .500 team, I wouldn't have believed you.

A stat I find odd is that Rickey Henderson never had more than seven triples in a season. Despite being a right-handed hitter, with his speed, you'd think he would have had at least a couple years where he reached double digits.

I put this in today's game thread, but I find this stat amazing. Aramis Ramirez has extreme reverse splits this year:

.308 .398 .565 .962 vs. RHP

.229 .327 .382 .708 vs. LHP

For his career, he has regular splits:

.283 .339 .493 .832vs. RHP

.286 .351 .533 .904 vs. LHP

More bizarre is that he absolutely murdered lefties last year, the biggest extreme in the other direction in his career:

.286 .339 .487 .826 vs. RHP

.395 .457 .763 1.220 vs. LHP

Is there any explanation? It could just be a fluke (sample size vs. LHP is 150 PAs this year), but its a really extreme shift as he has greatly increased his performance vs. RHP and greatly decreased his performance against LHP.

Forgot to add that. When you think of Nolan Ryan you think of one of the most dominating pitchers of all time, and it's a shock to see that he's never had a Cy Young award.

He could certainly be dominant, but he also had 292 losses and 2,795 walks in his career. He finished most seasons right around .500.

That's hardly his fault. In 1987 he went 8-16 despite the fact that his ERA was 2.76... which was good enough to make him the league leader.

Why are you paying attention to a pitcher's W-L record?

Because Cy Young voters place heavy emphasis on W-L records.
