So today it's Brandon Backe (6-10, 4.72)

VS.

Jason Marquis (6-7 4.68)

It's evenly matched mediocrity on the mound, but the Astros seem to have our number, so Jason needs to bring his game today.

Let's try and get this one without all the lead blowing, thanks.

GO CUBS!

This should be a slugfest today, but who knows, maybe Marquis has one more pre-meltdown start left in him.

Anyway, lets just beat the crap out of these guys this afternoon, and bury the Cardinals once and for all this weekend.

Jason needs to bring his "A" game today (6 IP 4 ER). Reds have a favorable pitching matchup (mostly), and Ryan Luckwick is in the midst of one of his usual hot streaks.

Battle of the baddies!

I expect Marquis to get lit up, I'm gonna predict our # of runs minimum needed to win this game at 6.

Normally I can at least be somewhat optimistic for Marquis. But the Astros are just an absolutely horrible matchup for him. I'm just hoping he can avoid the disaster start, because those middle of the order hitters (especially Berkman) have just demolished him over the course of his career.

On the other hand, the Cubs have not been stellar against Backe overall, although most of that is due to a low batting average caused by a low BABIP. So hopefully they can have a few more fall in today.

Marquis is due for one of those 8 IP, 1 R kind of games. The power of positive thinking!

Now, for a random observation. I drove past Busch Stadium on my way into the office this morning and they were lining people up for stadium tours. There was this kid wearing a Marlins jersey t-shirt with "Mitre" across the back.

How many of those do you think they've sold, asks the fellow who has a blue Marquis jersey t-shirt.

I've got the Marquis jersey t-shirt as well...I tried to get the Edmonds Jersey last time I was at Wrigley after he hit two in one inning off the Sox but they didn't have them...I'm thinking of starting a collection of Ex-Cards who have helped the Cubs jerseys...of course, if the Cubs would do well in the Fall this year I'd have to buy a real Edmonds Jersey and get it framed for my office.

I'll be going to this game. If I had the choice, this would be the last game I'd want to go to this vacation, but I didn't want to risk waiting any longer and spending a bunch of cardinals tickets.

So please, PLEASE score some runs cubs, and be decent at the very least, Marquis.

I'm gonna be there. It really sucks that the games I've went to this year have been started by Lilly, Marshall, and Marquis. I haven't seen any of the big three.

I hear ya. The last 2 games I went to were both pitched by Marquis.
