Soto batting 8th is still weird to me. It's like Dusty is managing with his "speedy OF leads off, MIF bats second, catcher bats 8th" nonsense. Batting the guy with the 3rd best SLG and OPS+ 8th is bad managing.

Yeah, I'm not liking him down there, although it does give some pop to the bottom of the order, and possibly sets the table for Soriano.

Any wind today?

A few seemed frustrated with Fukudome' recent struggles however, when one compares him to the crap that roamed RF last year, Fukudome' not too bad.

Since mid-May, has he really been any better than anything Jacque Jones gave us last year, OBP aside?

This made me laugh.

Fukudome should be considered a rookie with the long grind of the season he's not used to. He'll be better next year.

Yesterday, no Berkman, today, no Tejada. Theres really no excuse not to beat these guys today.

Sure there is. Marquis is pitching.

And Howry's arm is still reasonably rested.

Marquis is due for one of those 8 IP, 1 R kind of games. The power of positive thinking!

Now, for a random observation. I drove past Busch Stadium on my way into the office this morning and they were lining people up for stadium tours. There was this kid wearing a Marlins jersey t-shirt with "Mitre" across the back.

How many of those do you think they've sold, asks the fellow who has a blue Marquis jersey t-shirt.

Seriously???

The only way I can see this ever happening is if you're 10+ beers deep and just left one of his random good games.

That's how I wound up with a CPatt shirt a few years ago...

Hell, if you're that eager to waste $20, I'll take it.

It was all part of Bob's master plan people. Don't throw 10 pitches to Lee trying to get him out. Groove him one fastball and trust your team to come back. Then you're fresh for another appearance tomorrow. Just when your team needs you.

Marquis is going to get destroyed today. Chalk up 2 HR's and a double for for Carlos Lee and expect Lou to use the Howry if it is a close game

There are few things in this world better than a 1:20 game at Wrigley.

Yeah, one of them is half days at work to accommodate said 1:20 starts :(

Tejada is sporting a .720ish OPS (nearly Cedeno's OPS), i'm not so sure he's a reason why we should win or lose this game.

OK, Jason. Be Grand Marquis today rather than Marquis de Sade.

Hopefully we can score 11 or so again. I don't think we'll need quite all that, but wouldn't mind a couple more long balls from the middle of the order. Go Cubs!

Im getting sick as hell of Lou defending Howry. He's doing it again right now saying he's just " unlucky" and " unfortunate" and the moment. What don't you get that he's washed up and he blows??

I may have been intoxicated and thought it would be a great idea last year to buy one and wear it when he pitched here last season.

Baseball reference reminds me that was July 26, 2007. JM went 5 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 4 BB, 2 HR. We, uh, lost.

When half your starting lineup has OPSs in the high 6s/low 7s, a guy like Tejada is a big part of your team.
