Wandy meanwhile still has big H/R splits. 3.31 ERA at home and 4.03 WHIP on the road.

4.03 WHIP is a bad WHIP.

It's catastrophic. Is that really true?

I think he meant ERA.

Wandy would be back down in low-A if he had a 4.03 WHIP over a sustained period of time.

That would also equal giving up roughly a run per inning. Thats a quick ticket to the minors unless your names Bob Howry.

And if your name is Bob Howry, it likely means putting you in with a slim lead in the 7th or 8th

This series scares me. I wouldn't be surprised to see Houston hit Dempster pretty hard. I'm pretty much writing it off as a given they will pound Marquis, as they have typically done in his Cubs career. But the Cubs get the mediocre Backe that day. I don't think anyone can hit Rich Harden, but Wandy scares me vs. the Cubs offense who can never seem to do anything against him.

Winner tonight takes 2 of 3 in the series.

The Astros honestly don't really scare me at Wrigley like they do at MMP. That park does wonders for them.

Brian Moehler has a 4.63 ERA on the road with a 1.41 WHIP, while he has a 3.99 ERA at home

Wandy meanwhile still has big H/R splits. 3.31 ERA at home and 4.03 WHIP on the road. Last year he had a 2.97 ERA at home and a 6.37 ERA on the road, so while I guess having a .62 ERA difference between H/R is not a lot, he has been known to pitch less effectively on the road in his career.

Also, the Astros hit nearly 100 points better (OPS) at home than on the road. They are 11th in the league in home OPS at .784, while they are 25th in the league in road OPS at .689

I'm thinking two of three is definitely possible, looking over the season series the 4 of the 5 Astros' victories are by 2 runs or less - I attribute most of that to luck. This Astros' staff is terrible heck, Marquis would be a 3 for that staff.

So... do they have anything we need that would clear waivers? I mean, they seem to be adding at this point.

If the Cubs can somehow get 33 games over .500 this year, it will be their most over .500 since 1945

At the current pace, they'd finish 32 games over .500. Then again, they'll probably lose a few more games than they otherwise would if they clinch at all early.

^Color me slightly uneasy to see talk about clinching this thing up early.

Not that I disagree, just a bit scary.

Is Ward really hitting third? I guess that makes pinch hitting Lee for him better late in the game, but....not exactly what I'd do.

It'd be sweet to push the Cards to 6.5 back, eh?

3 starts in a row for cedeno?

IIRC, he's being doing fairly well as of late and also, Riot could probably use a night off.

With all this talk about clinching, I have a quick question. Am I correct in assuming that the Cubs' magic number for clinching a playoff spot, not the division, just clinching a playoff spot, is 44? That's the Cubs' magic number over the Cards, and right now, the Cards are the best team that wouldn't be in the playoffs.

He didn't start on sunday. Dero played 2B and Theriot was at SS.

You would be correct with that guess.

Good to see Lee and Theriot get a day off (another in the case of Theriot).
