and the Cubs win

hooray!

The pitching has really been spectacular, and in a perfect world we'd have scored SOMETHING yesterday and be going for the sweep tomorrow.

Oh well

The Brewers are on auto-win today with CC going against some bozo for Atlanta.

Maybe the Phils can get something done against Looper, who knows. Probably not though.

Why does it seem like teams such as the Pirates wait until they play us to bring their A game, then proceed to suck against the rest of the league?

You sure about that, Clark?

Pirates v. the Cubs: 4-9

Pirates v. everyone else in the NL: 41-40

Don't muddy the water with things like facts and rational observations. It's not fair.

Even if the statement were true based on last night, 3 runs off of Jason Marquis doesnt classify as A game. It was just another case of the Cubs being baffled by a no name pitcher.

...which is what teams like the Buccos like to do to get more wins than they normally would.

But whatever, I wasn't really being serious anyway.

Lilly the best #4 starter in the majors?

Easily. He never had me sold as a number 2 starter, but as a number 4 starter, I cant think of a better one since Steve Avery in the Braves glory days. At least I think Avery was the number 4. Maybe it was Smoltz, in which case he was a damn good #4 too.

2003 and 2004 Matt Clement was better than Lilly this season.

Am I missing something? Lilly has been lights out since around the middle of May or so, right?

Since 19 May, Lilly is 6-2..........

Clement/Z beg to differ...

Do you mean one or the other, or both? Because Z has never been the 4th best starter in a rotation.

Nah, but I remembered him going into that season as the designated "#4." As if all these designations didn't mean anything as it was, it turns out that Z started out that season as the 5th starter behind Estes. Gotta love Dusty.

Good thing he did. If Dusty had started him higher in the rotation the abuse points would likely have built up even more at a young age. We could be looking at all of the "big three" destroyed by Dusty instead of two.
