Rain delay in Daytona.

Although they look like they're about to get started.

Chris Huseby got the start in Game 1 of the AZL Cubs' DH. So far:

2 scoreless, 1 H, 3/0 K/BB

And no HBP. That's his final line. Maybe his control is fixed.

His only 3 outings of the season:

6/23: 0+ IP, 0 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 0 K, 1 HBP

6/27: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 0 K, 1 HBP

7/2: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 3 HBP

Yay!!

Iowa Bottom 1st

Jason Stanford singles on a soft ground ball to third baseman Christian Colonel.

Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Andres Torres replaces Felix Pie.

Iowa Bottom 2nd

Iowa Cubs Felix Pie left the game due to an injured hand/wrist.

Ugh...

Vitters was 0 for 3 but just doubled. And Flaherty just doubled him in. Ryan is 2 for 3 with that double and a walk. Drew Rundle is 1 for 3 with another double too.

Pawelek went 1.2 IP: 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.

Last 4 outings: 6.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K.

Boise wins the game on a Ryan Keedy RBI single to the CF that scored Ryan Flaherty.

And the umps let the Hawks celebrate before sending the runners back one base because the ball supposedly hit the ump on its way up the middle (you can't tell on the video). Awful. The game should be over. And Boise manager Tom Beyers finally ejected.

Dan McDaniel just threw a curve in the dirt that Mike Brenly whiffed on...it bounced through the wickets and hit the ump square in the family jewels.

Tyler Colvin ends July with a line of .236/.301/.377 for the season. He was .237/.283/.392 for the month, and has been consistently incompetent month-to-month, with OPS of 696-682-661-675 (678 for season). I'm fairly certain this includes his big July 31.

I've been trying to stay patient with Colvin and checking his numbers at the end of every month. It's hard to come up with anything other than extreme disappoint at the utter lack of progress. This is a guy who many, or at least I, thought was a safe pick who would at least be decent even if he had little upside. Even the marginal upgrade in plate discipline has left him with a K/BB of 2.21/1.

Very discouraging. He hasn't put together anything more than a 3 or 4 game hot streak, then goes like 1 for 18. I am still willing to give him some more time, but expecting anything from him as far as ML success goes is probably not a good idea.

Willing or not, I realize there's nothing to do but give him more time. I assume there won't be a promotion in his future, but, who knows.

Please don't mention Colvin's name again, I had that procedure from Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind where I had all memory of him and Tim Wilken saying he was like Alex Rios erased.

At this point I am ALMOST WILLING to just say, call him the left handed version of Ryan Harvey, but without the talent. I like the pick when it was made, but---sighs---the Cubs continued to go with potential instead of production.

I didn't think anyone liked the pick considering it left Travis Snider and Hank Conger (my two faves at that spot) on the board. I knew Colvin was trouble when he was like #65 on Baseball America's big board and of all of Baseball America's collegiate All-Stars he had by far the crappiest BB/K ratio of them all and not even the power to remotely justify it.

I think my preferences ran

#1- Travis Snider

#2- Hank Conger

#3- Chris Marrero

#4- Chris Parmelee

#5- Kyle Drabek

I still consider it a mystery why on the earth the Astros would draft Max Sapp over Conger.

Well I did. I remember watching him play and thought of Mark Kotsay. Unfortunately, Colvin will prolly never make it pass AA. Another 1st rder that busted....
