....why people continue to question Lou is beyond me....

Because in our hearts we all want to manage the Cubs, and like to think we could be good at it.

It'd be interesting to see how the Cubs would be doing about now if the users on this board were making the decisions. Honestly...I can't say that I think we'd be as good as we are right now. We'd have Khalil Greene instead of Ryan Theriot (And if we couldn't get Greene, we would have found some way to replace Theriot. Possibly with Cedeno), we definitely wouldn't have Edmonds, Probably no Lee..since everybody wanted to hold on to Hee Seop Choi, etc.

Of course everything I just said was more GM decisions than managerial decisions. I do think that a lot of the board users would do more than an adequate job of in-game decision making.

i understand what your saying and you could twist things any way you want

for instance...shark has pitched fairly well but has not really looked comfortable out there so he wants to use him as much as possible so that he gets more comfortable rather than putting in eyre who lou wouldnt trust with a 10 run lead and is just taking up a roster spot

i understand second guessing a manager is part of what the fans and that east coast television station do, but something so petty that had no real significance on the outcome of the game is silly....what if he brought eyre in and he had to end up using marmol to close it?

i am not trying to bash you guys, just saying the move was not worthy of having an immediate post after a great win questioning the manager....if he wouldve brought eyre in and we wouldve lost, then it wouldve been worthy

Shark hasn't looked comfortable out there?????

If Lou doesn't trust Eyre with a 10 run lead, then he shouldn't be on the roster.

The move didn't have much significance in last night's game, but if Shark can't pitch in game 3 it most certainly could be significant in that game. Look, you start Eyre or Cotts in the 9th. If they give up 2 or 3 runs THEN you bring in Shark to close it out.

And I don't think Lou is going to lose any sleep over me questioning his bullpen move on the Internet.

Lou will have Gaudin and Marmol available tonight for sure and Dempster is usually good for at least 6 innings. Why would it be so vital the he have Shark on another day's rest as well? I think so far his results have been encouraging, but this is a guy that has given up a run in 2 of his 3 appearances so it is not like he is some kind of lock down set up man that Lou needs to keep rested in case the Cubs are in a tight game.

Maybe Lou knows something about Eyre that we don't.

This. If you didnt know anything about baseball and you only read this forum, you would think Lou is some bumbling fool who can't tie his shoes. There is probably a ton of things we have no idea about, and shouldnt know about. Some moves may seem questionable, but the way he has guys responding and the confident postive atmosphere the guys have going outweighs a few questionable decisions now and then, in my opinion.

That said, good win, and lets hit 'em again today.

Go Cubs!

The only thing I didnt like about last night was toward the end of the 8th, when Z kept looking down at his hand, and Len or Bob were saying that he could have been developing a finger blister. The last thing we need is another blister problem.

Would anyone else agree that Kosuke should be kept at the 5 spot for now? It is where he had the most success, and while he doesnt have the power of Edmonds or Soto, he seems to perform the best there. I know its was just 1 game, and his triple would have been a single if it werent for Brauns comical defensive ineptitude, but maybe Lou should keep him in that sot, at least vs. righties. Maybe it will jog his memory about how amazing he was the first few months.

I don't understand why Eyre couldn't have pitched. He is certainly good enough to get three outs without allowing 7 runs to score. It's not like Eyre has been awful this year, not like the first half of last year where he was terrible. It's almost like Lou thinks its last year when Howry was good and Eyre was horrendous. I don't want him pitching with the game on the line but he should have closed out this game.

Plus the Brewers had LRL coming up in the 9th with Fielder, Hart and Branyan up. If there was a good time to ease Eyre back in, this was it. Color me concerned about what's going to happen with him.

People need to stop being so defensive when anyone questions Lou. He has done well at changing the offensive approach of this team and holding players accountable BUT his use of the bullpen is as bad as it gets. For starters, when Z was at ~ 100 pitches after 7, you simply have to take him out there. Our BP can close out a 6 run game in the 8th. Then, the lead is pushed to 7 and you bring in the Shark instead of Eyre? Eyre hasn't pitched in WEEKS! Let him go out there, even if he allows 4-5 runs, we still win comfortably. Then, you likely have the Shark available for the final two games of the series, instead of just one of the games. He just takes completely unnecessary risks.

Keep in mind, there were a lot of complaints about Marmol's usage and they proved to be completely warranted. It doesn't take a genius to figure this stuff out.

just saying it really does not matter....why people continue to question Lou is beyond me.

His moves will not work out everytime but in his first 2 years here they have worked out a lot more times than not

Lets celebrate the victory not dwell on petty intricacies

I dont think its anything against Eyre, unless hes injured. Its really just a case of Lou trying to get a better feel fo Samrdzjia. Yeah, hes looked great in his first few games. He made a few mistakes, but it happens.

With Wood hopefully coming back in the not too distant future, Lou is trying to figure out if Shark is going to stay up, or if hes just the new guy that other teams havnt figured out yet. Remember, Ascanio looked great in his first stint up. We will be seeing an awful lot of Shark in many different situations between now and when Wood is ready. Lou needs to see if Shark is his guy with Howry being so awful, this could make Howry very expendible, maybe as soon as tommorows deadline.

This was a perfect opportunity for him to pitch. Hes still available tommorow if needed, as are Gaudin and Marmol. Eyre is essentially obsolete as long as Cotts and Marshall keep performing well.

it'd be pretty boring around here if all we did was "celebrate" victories. questionable managerial decisions are going to get discussed...it's a baseball message board.

That's pretty accurate. However, how boring would a discussion board really be if there was never anything to question. Someone would start a post, and all the responses would simply be "I agree".

How fun would that be?

The only thing I'd really question about last night's game would be Zambrano pitching the 8th and Eyre not getting a little easy work if he's truly on the trade block. I suppose Eyre might be one of those guys who could clear waivers and get traded after the trade deadline, but I really don't want to see him in there in a close game against the Brewers, so last night was an ideal situation for him to work the 8th.

Oh I think it is against Eyre. First of all as a fan I don't even like the bum, imagine what Lou thinks? The guy is always hurt it seems. There's a reason why the Cubs are willing to trade him when they themselves need bullpen help currently.
