It's so stupid that Bartman gets blamed for this. Alex Gonzalez was the reason that inning fell apart.

Even if you look at the infamous picture of Bartman catching the ball, theres like 10 other set of hands reaching out. He just happened to be the unlucky bastard who fate frowned upon. It could have just as easily been some other name synonomous with the collapse of '03.

I agree. Why not blame the team? Why not blame the players who went out there and layed an egg? Why not blame the poor managing decisions by Dusty? I want all of these stupid people out there in this world to stop blaming Bartman for what he did. It's not funny and he is not the reason the '03 Cubs fell apart. Also, How do they know for sure Alou would've made that catch? Go back and ask all those players again if they believe Bartman was the reason they lost that year. And if they do, than shame on them.

I think most Cub fans realize Bartman isn't to blame. Is the sports media that can't let it die.

And fixed

He will stay a recluse. If he wanted to cash in he would have done it a long time ago. He graduated from Notre Dame and was a consultant (I think), I doubt he is in any financial trouble. No reason for him to show up.

It's bad enough they do this, but then in true Yahoo sports fashion, they put out lies on top of it:

In the almost five years since his name became synonymous with the Billy Goat curse, Bartman has turned down every single interview request that has come his way

I've seen Bartman interviewed on TV, he hasn't turned down EVERY SINGLE request. At least one guy was able to speak with him.

And that's in addition to the fact that the Cubs were the ones that blew that game, not Steve Bartman.

Are you sure? I really don't think he's done a single TV interview, but I could be wrong. Google turns up nothing.

The only "interview" (more like a stalking) I know of is this one with ESPN writer Wayne Drehs a few years ago:

He hasn't interviewed with anyone. It's been talked about many times before how he has turned down all interview requests. It's the reason I started supporting him. His alleged answer to one request by either SI or ESPN was he didn't want to capitalize on one of the worst moments in Cubs history.

25K probably doesn't cover the personal hell he went through right after.

If he showed up in jeans a tshirt and contacts to a Cubs game I don't think anyone would even recognize him.

He should definitely show up for 3 reasons:

1) It's easy money

2) This could be the beginning of people moving on with their lives instead of using Bartman as a scapegoat.

3) Some of the proceeds of the convention will go towards charity if he shows up.
