With just a simple edit. Kudos. =D>

What annoys me is that I have a lot of friends who are fans of other teams like the Red Sox, Braves, Orioles, etc, and most of them seem to think we have this obsession with Bartman like we talk about him all the time and are ready to kill him if we see him. The thing is, I don't think about Bartman unless a fan of another team brings him up. Get over it already. We have.

I never hated or blamed Bartman for anything. However, I always thought there was something not quite right about him, sitting all by himself with his headphones.

Meh. If I had one ticket for a Cubs playoff game I'd go by myself.

Bartman declined the offer which I think is very admirable of him. This is entirely consistent with his past history of declining all monetary offers for interviews/publicity/autographs. I can't say I could do the same of declining 25 large.

You know, the Cubs themselves could have (and still could) put a final end to this nonsense. While Bartman doesn't keep a high profile, apparently you can get ahold of "family spokesman" Frank Murtha.

How about this. Aram and Woody surprise him one day (with, say, Bruce Miles conveniently tagging along) and officially apologize for the 5 years of hell he went through. And present him with season tickets for life.

In fact, after turning down 25K I think we need a Steve Bartman day at Wrigley. Each attendee gets a Bartman autographed picture...of A-Gone booting that double play.

To be honest, I think it would take a bit of a stunt to finally put it to rest. He comes out on field, 15% boo, 85% quickly educate those idiots on why the poor guy isn't to blame for '03.

I say good for him. After the hell he went through after 2003, I would probably tell anybody wishing to cash in on it to go eff themselves too. Not everyone is an opportunistic attention whore. I admire his ability to separate himself from the incident despite everyone's desire to not let it go

In his situation though, it's probably just not worth the additional aggravation.

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that Bartman's fine. He's not destitute. He's not unemployed. He's just a guy who is living his life like everyone else, and wants to be left alone.

I can't understand why people just don't let it go. They should go back and watch the game, objectively: the Cubs were still winning after Bartman. The situation on the field hadn't changed one bit after the "Bartman incident." I understand the raw emotion of the moment but now that it's 5 years in the past, it's time to look at it objectively and realize the Cubs lost that game because they stopped playing good baseball in that very inning.

Cause sports media is full of lazy morons. That's why they won't let it go. They think they're comedians, they're just pricks.

You're underestimating the # of idiots out there.

Just leave the poor guy alone already. I'm so tired of the national media.

This. Interview AGon (who dropped the ground ball), Alou (who through a temper tantrum in the middle of arguably the biggest game in franchise history), Prior (who gave up most of the hits), and Baker (whose craptacular management left Prior out there to twist in the wind after the team behind him folded-up mentally).

he's said before that he's not interested in cashing in on a "tragic" moment in Cubs' history. this is consistant with that. just let the guy move on.

I agree, and too many fans continue to regard it as something worthy of listening to, worthy of giving creedence to.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know anything about Bartman, other than he caught a baseball and went into hiding?

I know this sounds weird, but I was Bartman's batboy when I was younger. He played with my brother on a youth traveling team based out of Niles called the Renegades. During the same time the foul ball happened, Bartman and my brother were assistant coaches for the same traveling team. Next time you see the replay you can see Bartman wearing a black Renegades sweatshirt. Even with decently close ties to him, I don't know much about Steve. He was friends with my brother, but after the foul ball he basically went into seclusion. They had "a party" for Steve to let him know he was still loved by his friends and family. My brother went to the party, but never really spoke with him thereafter. Bartman is a good person from what my brother has told me (I honestly don't remember much about him when I was the batboy), I hope he is doing well.
