Since the Bears can't burn blitzing defenses with the big play and can't pick blitzes, Orton is going to get killed.

There's nothing to like about this offense. Nothing. Only special teams and defense.

If Lovie was going to name Kyle Orton the starter for Opening Night, then why the heck they did pass on getting a QB with actual talent in the dang draft? :banghead:

I hate this organizaton when it comes to being stubbornly (

It's going to be fun being the proverbial sitting duck for the Colts to knock off to open their new stadium.

Super Bowl rematch!! Yay!

God that game seems so long ago now.

Manning might not play. He hasn't practiced yet and his knee might be worse than originally thought.

But if Manning sits out, the Colts still win.

He's a game manager that makes mistakes, where as Grossman takes chances and makes mistakes. Because he doesn't take as many chances, Orton doesn't make as many mistakes, though.

Orton has a lower TD to INT rate. He might be a game mananger, but he throws more INTs than Grossman.

I'd love for the Bears to limit Hester's time at WR with Orton in there.

Not that they will, of course.

Orton's not a good option for you guys for the full season. But he has a decent chance of being a good option against the Colts. The Colts are typically stubborn enough to play the same defense against all types of QB's. They take away the deep ball and allow you to make accurate, short passes that they then tackle you on. If the opposing QB can throw an accurate short ball though, the other team can move down the field and churn up clock.

Grossman is the absolute worst type of QB to start against the Colts. He would try to force things, and his strength does not do well against what the Colts are willing to give you. Orton is a better option for the Bears for that game. If he can get 2 good drives in playing a ball control offense, and the Bears add some great special teams in, they could win the game. I would hope the Colts would change their strategy to stop that (play press coverage and force Orton to throw it over them), but after seeing them play against other QB's with weak arms, I doubt they will.

BTW, everything I've heard about Manning still says he's on schedule, but he won't return to the practice field until at least next week.

With Boldin' renewing his trade demand, I would love for Bears to make a move for him.

The Bears offense has a ton of upside......

......which is easy to have when you're sitting at the absolute bottom.

It may have a ton of upside, but its glass ceiling is hovering around a mediocre NFL offense.

All the good players the Bears could trade for were already given signing bonuses. Can you sign and trade in the NFL? I'd trade Briggs for Boldin and move Jamar Williams to Briggs' spot.

I bet Rex is wondering why the hell he came back. I know I am.

Sure Grossman makes some dumb plays, but there's not even a question that he's a better quarterback than Orton. I don't really understand the purpose of starting Orton, but I'm sure most of the smart Bears fans don't either.

And there's no way Anquan Boldin is going to want to go to the Bears. Absolutely no way.

Orton plays more consistantly behind a horsecrap O-line. I guess the coaching staff decided they needed to slow down the offense in order to cover up the fact they completely screwed the line. Maybe all the opposing defenses will slow down their level of play too.

I was actually glad they drafted Orton when they did, I really dont mind the guy. But I just dont understand the thought process in Chicago.

To be totally honest here, I can't tell you what the Bears are trying to do on offense. And I follow the Bears pretty closely.

I'm beginning to become very certain that the Bears don't know what they're trying to do either. And that's sad. After all these years of not having a clue on offense, it turns out Angelo doesn't have one either, and he's not going to develop a clue. Frustrating as hell -- to me, anyway.

As for Boldin, I'd like to see how the Bears would even fit his contract under the cap because from what I understand we're pretty close to it right now. I'm not saying it couldn't be done, of course. But I'd be interested to see how they'd do it.

I don't think Boldin would want to come here either.

Why the hell he came back? He had no other offers. He wasn't getting a starting spot anywhere else. At least in Chicago he could try for one.

There's not even a question? What game are you watching? No one is head and shoulders above the other. The Bears aren't going anywhere with Grossman. Might as well see what Kyle can do.

Money talks more than playing for a good team does for a number of players.

It's easy to fit Boldin under the cap. You give him a huge signing bonus which does not factor in the cap. Or St. Louis does. Then you trade him for Briggs who we gave a signing bonus to. The Bears have 9 million left under the cap. Boldin gets a few million on top of the bonus. Money is not the problem here.

I think I mentioned this before, but can you clarify where you are getting that 9 million left number?

For all it's flaming and ridiculousness, there is a guy who calculates the Bears' cap space pretty religiously on chicagobears.com. He's got us with muuuuuch less than that left. Here's the link

TOTAL $100,717,499

LBTE's not earned $1,700,000

We don't know if he had any other offers. My understanding was that he only re-signed with the Bears because he felt like he was going to be the starter. Whoops.

There isn't a question. Grossman had his bad games in 06, but he also had his awesome ones. He had to win a few of those games with some great play in the 4th quarter. Has Kyle Orton ever shown he can do that? Woohoo, he played well in two meaningless games last year. And hey, he was pretty bad in 05, but at least he didn't turn the ball over! That 05 Bears team was so putrid on offense and a large part of it was due to the playcalling, but it was also in the team not believing in Orton. And there's a reason why they didn't believe in him. They literally had the same team in 2006 on offense and Grossman made it so much better. Like I said, there's no question who the better QB is.

Perhaps Boldin is a WR that cares more about money than playing for a good team. He probably is. But with the Bears QB situation, with their other "playmakers" on offense, and an embarrassing offensive line, I don't think he's going to want his career to die at such a young age.

I am so bored I decided to wade through the cesspool that is the ChicagoSports.com comments section on the Orton/Grossman stuff.

Someoe called Rex "Chicago's Battered Wife". I laughed.

Someone else pointed out that people should be as critical of Orton as they were of Grossman. They won't be.

And for what it's worth, I hope the Bears are stupid enough to cut him, because there's a team in this division that could pick him up, and has enough talent that Rex could absolutely murder teams.

I'd just like to see the meatball Bears fans deal with that.

Oh god, I'd have sex with that moment.

I'd give up something to listen to the reaction if we cut him, he ended up in Minnesota and just demolishes the Bears twice.

Oh man, that would just be like schadenfreude heaven.
