I'm not suggesting any lineup changes or any sort of move, but Lee and Aramis need to get it back together or this team is quite mortal.

I guess I'm looking over my shoulder and seeing the Brewers/Cardinals fogging up the rear window.

I'd like to see Hoff get a start at 1st in this series. Maybe even DeRosa at 3rd with Ward starting in the OF the other game. Ward's PH apearances haven't been great, but he's produced in his few starts. Maybe do it the last game of the series and let Lee and Aramis hopefully kinda "retart" back at home against the Marlins.

How many teams do you think have 3-4 hitters with worse overall numbers than Lee and Ramirez?

How many teams are as good up and down the lineup as the Cubs?

I was thinking this myself. Hoff hits lefties and righties equally, though he may not be Lee's equal defensively. Heck I replace them both in the same game. Maybe A-Ram and D Lee both need a wake up call. Their hitting is far different on the road, and that needs to change. They can't be swinging and every piece of junk that comes their way. That 9th inning tonight was a glaring example, and it's cost us many games.

If they want to make the big bucks, they need to earn it on the road, not just at Wrigley Field. =;

the third such thread since the game ended ... can we stop now please

I like how my Rockets board runs things with thread posting ... you create one taht already exists or one that is completely pointless you get suspended from starting threads for a week. If you are new or have done it multiple times you get demoted permenantly until you have a series of good posts.

The Cubs are getting the 8th best production out of the 3-hole and 9th best out of the cleanup spot.....that's in the majors. Lee and Ramirez are and have been fine.

They've been fine, over the course of the season. But as the person who started the thread noted, they are hurting the production right now. They've both struggled since May.

Why are people jumping all over those who make threads expressing frustration at bad streaks? Does anybody really think it's reasonable to expect fans to just sit back, relax and calmly take in the season? I'm so sick of the absurd storyline that Cubs fans get so up and down during the year. Really Lou, maybe that's because you are used to managing in areas where nobody has any emotions regarding the local baseball club. Don't pretend the Yankees fans aren't the same exact way. They prepare to hang guys like ARod the first time he pops out with men on in the 9th. There's nothing wrong with ventings some steam when the team goes through stretches like it's going through now. The Cubs are last in the NL in OPS since the ASB. They are 10th in the NL in OPS in July. They are back to the bottom of the barrel in the NL in OBP largely because they aren't taking walks anymore. It's frustrating, and considering how crappy the offense has been for several years, it's a little disconcerting, and completely understandable why some would think it may be a sign of things to come.

Everyone has been ripping on Jason Varitek for his extended slump and blaming it on declining abilities. He is 18 for his last 133.

Ramirez has now matched half of his slump, going 9 for his last 66

The offense will come back. Soriano will be come back soon, and reconfigure the entire team. The Brewers and Cardinals will hit there own rough patches. I would, however like to see Edmonds hit 4th, with Lee and Ramirez around him once or twice, just to see how it works out.

aside from 2 terribly cold streaks around the break has been very, very good.

I'm sure someone will have evidence that proves me dead wrong, but it seems to me that Lee just can't turn on the inside pitches anymore. Most of his hard hit balls seem to go to center or right. Just like last night, 2-0 count runners on first and third, he knows he's getting a fast ball and let's himself get jammed. If i'm opposing teams I would just bust him in all day until he proves he can turn on that pitch and not just weakly ground it to the left side.

I have some confidence the Cards will hit a rough patch. The Brewers though? I'm not so sure. They may have a streak of 10 games where they only win 5, or something like that. But a prolonged losing stretch of games? Anything can happen, but I'm not convinced it will in this case. They've now got too many starters that will go deep into games, covering for that bullpen. And they've got the offense to simply blow away most opponents.

I could be wrong but I seem to remember that he had this problem in his first year with the Cubs in 2004 during the first half. Teams just kept busting him in, and then eventually he figured out how to hit the inside pitch and went on a tear.

So you think the worst they will do from now on over any 10 game stretch is .500? I'm sure they'll do worse than that at some point.

The Brewers offense, much like our own can very well blow away most opponents, but it can also go ice cold out of nowhere. They did it last year, they can do it again.
