Time to continue the payback for the indignity and injustice of 2007. We get Johnson, Owings and Davis against Harden, Marquis and Lilly.

Time to keep the snake sound effects quiet, time to keep the white towels down, time to keep every one of those fairweather D'back fans out there in their seats.

LET'S ROCK.

Thankfully Randy Johnson is not quite Randy Johnson anymore. Lee and Ramirez have had 39 official at-bats against Johnson. In those at-bats, they've struck out in 25 of them.

Johnson's still a high K guy, but he's much more hittable than he's used to be. And the biggest problem for him now is that he gives up a ton of HR's.

I know the Cubs won't do this, but this is one day I'd like to see Edmonds start. He has had decent success against Johnson during his career (of course, neither are the same players anymore). Since I don't really see Cedeno hitting Randy well, I'd be fine with Edmonds in center, Johnson in left, and DeRosa at 2nd.

There is rumblings that Soriano might be back tomorrow if he fares well in Mesa in the morning. Lou said it was 25/75, but hey I like our odds.

We need to come to play every day. With the Brewers/Cardinals playing the next 4 games, someone is ready to gain ground every game.

I much rather Soriano get a game or two in the minors before being activated. I want Soriano back at 100%, not 85%.

As bad as Johnson has been in recent years, lefties still haven't figured him out. But with the Cubs current roster, either Fukudome or Edmonds has to start tomorrow night. I'd think Edmonds has a much better shot to hit Johnson. I think you will see Edmonds in CF, Johnson in LF, but I also think you see Derosa in RF and Cedeno at 2B. My guess is Soriano comes off the DL a day early on Wednesday and is back in the lineup vs. lefty, Doug Davis.

If Fonzie's at 85 I want him back. What I don't want is the utter disaster that he was when he came back in early May from his first injury.

If Sori hits a homer or gets a couple hits in Mesa then you mine-as-well call him up because he is going to perform any better than that with an extra game or two.

If Fonzie's at 85 I want him back. What I don't want is the utter disaster that he was when he came back in early May from his first injury.

If Sori hits a homer or gets a couple hits in Mesa then you mine-as-well call him up because he is going to perform any better than that with an extra game or two.

You have to be careful about making that suggestion. Just because he goes 2-3 against 1st or 2nd yr minor leaguers, doesn't mean he's ready to rejoin the club, nor does going 0-3 with 3 k's mean he isn't ready to come back.

It will come down to Soriano and how he is feeling. I'm hoping he'll be honest with Lou. If he truly believes he's ready to come back, then so be it, but if he is rushing back because of the struggles of the team, then this is where the Cubs need to protect Alf from himself.

With the problems scoring runs lately, I have a feeling Sori is going to want to get back. I would imagine is even makes the idea easier for Lou to swallow. So if that happens we can just hope he's truly ready.

I'm pretty sure that no matter what happens, he'll play at least 1 game in Iowa, probably 2. He needs to get some of those Patteronesque 3 pitch strike out and dropped routine flys out of his system.

wow, Fukudome at 400 in his last 7 games. I'm no expert, but I could probably come close to that

And 500 in his last 8. Still crap obviously, just pointing out how big of a difference one game can make.

Should be some fun numbers when it's time to look at July splits. Fontenot has done a great job of replicating hot Soriano.

Psh, his HRs don't go nearly as far!
