I was really hoping and expecting the Cubs to get off to a fast start in the second half, then they start out with one of their worst offensive performances of the season against a garbage pitcher. Thanks.

Me too actually. I was feeling pretty confident that we would start off the second half on a run that would be fed by Sori's return. This might end up being an abberation and we might still go on that run, who knows. We do have Z and Demp to close out the series then Harden going on Monday.

I still think they will. One bad game doesn't change that. But the offense has really been pathetic on the road.

our bullpen sucks

Not really, but keep thinking that.

Losing to the last place team in the division ALWAYS sucks. Neither team "deserved" this game, but of course the team with the last at-bat will get the win. Come out tomorrow and kick the Astos butts, Cubs. You need to take control of the divison.

I think the Cubs deserved it less with only 5 baserunners all game and absolutely not a single baserunner past the 5th inning.

Perhaps, the Astros had more baserunners, and they only score 2 runs all night. So, while I do agree the Cubs prolly "deserve" this loss, by no means did Astros earn this win.

I am pretty confident the Cubs will win the next two games. and take the series.

I hope so, as it looks like the Cubs will be 3 up over the Cardinals and possibly 4 up over the Brewers (with Sabathia pitching) after tonight.

Hopefully this doesn't continue. The mark of a good team is beating up on the weaker teams. The Cubs ought to beat the Astros. If they can't, that's not a good sign.

Let's win the series and all will be forgotten.

Cubs lose, Brewers winning, Cardinals tied but surely will win. Not a great day for the Chicago National League baseball team.

What we learned today is that you have to score more against Moehler who is terrible (I knew we wouldn't check my first post in the thread) and that Howry can't really pitch anymore

Holy cow, we rape this guy.

1 run on 4 hits does not exactly my fit my description of a "raping".

I know, you meant historically, but should have known we'd get shut down or shut ourselves down tonight against a guy we should have blasted all night long - (making assumptions, as didn't see a single minute of the game, only listened to the b9th on the way home).

Going into the AS Break, Cubs were up 4.5 & 5.0.

First game back from the break, Cubs will *most likely* be only 3.0 & 4.0 up

Tonights piss poor effort was more like hitting on someone who clearly isnt interested than rape.

I don't get the lousy plate discipline they seem to have on the road. I swear some of those guys swing at every junk ball that comes their way. D Lee is really bad lately. Heck that first inning, they only saw what...5 pitches for 3 outs..?? Terrible. [-X

I felt bad for Ted, as he really did pitch well tonight..

I didn't see this game, but after I got out of the theater and found out we lost on a run in the bottom of the 9th, my first thought was "I bet Lou was using an inferior reliever", and sure enough Howry was in the game. When you're tied on the road in the 9th, every inning becomes a save situation, you need to start with your best remaining reliever and work backwords, not hold on to your closer hoping you get a save situation.

Howry was still in the game from getting the last out of the 8th inning though. Not much reason to take him out for the 9th in that spot.

And it wasn't even known last night that Wood was available. It sounds like they didn't want to use him unless they absolutely had to last night. After him, there are mostly a bunch of interchangable parts down there right now.
