Found this nice little article on Dubois.

Link.

Dubois has made the most of that chance. Through Friday, he was hitting .309 with 11 home runs and 24 RBIs in only 94 at-bats with Iowa.

His home run total tied him for the team lead - with a player who had 246 at-bats.

Dubois doesn't have enough at-bats to qualify to be among the Pacific Coast League leaders. But if he did, his .713 slugging percentage would lead the league.

Jason has a total of 210 major league ABs. I don't see how that constitutes proof of anything. Since he's getting old though, he'll probably never get another sniff.

He still cannot hit a breaking pitch. When I saw him in Memphis he hit a screaming line drive about 400 feet over the left field fence. I mean that thing got out in mili-seconds. That was the last fastball he saw for the two games I went to. I don't think he had another hit and struck out at least 3 times.

He's a physical specimen but has no plate discipline at all.

I wonder what would have become of him had he spent his key developmental years in an organization that is competent at developing position players?

Does Jason know he has the nickname Creature? We went to the game in OKC on Sunday and were sitting along the outfield wall down the third base line. There were some Redhawks fans giving Jason a hard time, but we were cheering for him pretty loudly with my 6 year old yelling Creature at the top of her lungs. He had a monster game at the plate 3 for 4 with a 3 run homer and the Redhawks fans pretty much shut up after that. A foul ball ricocheted back into the field and Jason threw it up to my daughters and I. Jason now has two huge fans here in OKC. Anyone have a lead on an autographed ball or two?

I yelled "creature" at him once in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh being Pittsburgh we had great seats, two rows in back of home plate to the Cubs side of the field (in "the Home Plate" club) so I was probably 15 feet away from him. He stopped dead in his tracks and gave me a look that took six months off my life. I'd say if he knows it, he doesn't like it.

I believe it was posted on here a few years ago when he was with the Cubs the first time that he said once he didn't like the nickname. So yes, he knows it.

I still remember that homerun he had against the White sox back in '05? The day Mark Prior pitched a complete game (oh how it hurts to relive that). But I have never seen a ball carry as much as it did on that 3 run jack by dubois (if that is how you spell his name). I thought he had a great career ahead of him. But, i guess somethings just don't happen.

Another HR for the Creature tonight.

Got a 2nd.

And now a 3rd.

Where's Julio Zuleta? He was the original DuBois. A fastball hitter who never saw a breaking pitch he could hit. He was also a message board favorite.

Playing for the Chiba Lotte Mariners.

Anyway, you make it sound like a bad thing to have rooted for the guy. He's got a career OPS+ of 99... free talent that can hit at a league average clip is always a nice find.

I don't think anybody is suggesting that we move Soriano to 2B to get Dubois' powerful bat in the lineup every day... but he would've gotten a very nice spot on an Earl Weaver bench... a guy who can paste pitchers without a great breaking pitch could definitely come in handy.

He damn sure better get thrown on the 40 man as a Sept callup... and I wouldn't mind having him as the counterpart to Daryle Ward off the bench right now.
