Well, let's see...

1. Going into the bottom of the 9th with a 2-run lead....check

2. Insert mostly stud closer...check

3. Bottom of the lineup due up for a team that had scored 4 runs in 17 innings...check

4. One out away from a huge W..check

5. Allowing an ex-pitcher to win the game...an unfortunate check

time for a few beers (and they won't be Buds!)

That was ---SOAPDROPPING--- awful. This is the angriest I've been this year.

I know he has been good all year, but **** kerry wood. You have to get through the crap that is the bottom of the cardinals order.

they'd be crap on most teams, but molina and skippy have hardly been crap this year. same with miles.

Think about that for a second. Then tell me how they aren't going to stick around all year. Look who they are getting good years from.

They're all hitting .298 or higher. It's unbelievable.

And Rick Ankiel has 3 more homers than any Cubs player. It's mind-blowing. The only bad thing that has ever happened to the Cardinals was Ankiel, so why wouldn't he come back and become a slugging CF?

yeah just like the brewers tremendous collapse on thursday led to them getting blown out by the pirates on friday.

Do the Cubs play the Pirates tomorrow?

no, they have one more game against the cardinals, followed by 3 games each against the reds and giants, both of whom stink. so i guess your point is valid, it's very possible that the cubs could lose tomorrow and be on a devastating 2-game skid.

I think Woody would tell you the same thing. He has to get the job done there. Now we probably drop this series.

Daryl Kile's death was a blessing in disguise.

Yeah, because we're guaranteed wins against the Reds and Giants, right? I mean, I'm pretty sure they don't even have to play. They just aut0omatically give the Cubs wins because those teams are so bad. Also, I'm pretty sure we'll see Harang, Cueto, and Volquez in the Reds series.

and Cain and Lincecum in the next one. Plus we have that horrible finish to the year. I don't get the false confidence some are showing.

I've been optimistic, but I'm not liking the way this team is shaking out. I still think we need a top of the rotation starter to be serious and I don't see who we can get at this point. If the Brewers get Sabathia and we end up with some stiff like Randy Wolf, I think the Brewers become the favorite.

Put this loss in the: "crushing, no way the Cubs are going to lose this game internal file". Seriously, I'm so used to to these type of losses that you almost become immune to them. I have felt this feeling so many times that you just walk away from the TV and say: "They managed to lose another game they had won".

If it's not blowing the NLCS in 1984 and 2003, it's losses like these that remind you how hard it is to be a fan of this team.

2.5 games better over half a season. It is at their park and we have our 7th best starter going.
