Honestly. Who can you absolutely take over him?

Alex Rodriguez

Chipper Jones when healthy

Wright seems like a tossup.

And no one else should even be in the discussion now that Miguel Cabrera has changed positions. I know it doesn't matter, but I wish the national media would give Aramis the kind of press he deserves. He's absolutely an elite player at his position.

Last nights pre-game was the first time I've seen a "special" on Aramis. They talked about him and showed highlights and said he's the star of our team right now. It does surprise me how he doesn't get more recognition.

I was at the game so I didn't see this. What did they talk about exactly?

Arod. But that's it. Chipper even when healthy is not as good as he has been this year. And he's old. Wright may be a toss up based on speed, but Aramis is a marginally better hitter and a better defender. Wright may get the nod based on age.

Chipper Jones is not HOF-worthy, a la Curt Schilling.

Discuss.

Why, because he's only 3rd all time in career HRs for switch hitters (behind only Mickey Mantle and Eddie Murray)? IMO, he will easily get elected to the HOF.

I don't think Schilling is HF-worthy, but Chipper would get my vote.

His career line is: 310/406/549 with a career OPS+ of 145.

He played 3b which is a position that is under represented in the HOF. He looks like a lock to me.

Of course he will. 400+ HRs, .300+ career avg, .950+ career OPS, not to mention that he was the offensive heart and soul of the entire Braves dynasty that was known for pitching.

i was surprised to hear that only arod, pujols, and maybe 1 other person has more rbi than aramis since 2003.

Ortiz was the other one.

WHAT?

The only 3rd basemen in history that rate higher than Chipper are Schmidt, Brett, Mathews, Boggs, Santo, Robinson & Evans. By the time he's done he'll have certainly passed Evans and Santo, and will probably pass Robinson. If a person who is in the top 10 (much less top 5) all time at their position isn't in the HOF, then something is wrong.

I'm a "Hall of FAME" not a "Hall of Very Good" type guy, and I think Chipper is a complete no brainer.

Wait, ARam's a better offensive player than David Wright? Even setting aside the fact that Wright's 5 years younger, can someone explain that to me?

Power is a wash with the two, but Wright has significantly better OBP numbers.

Wright's OPS+ this year is 124, where ARam's is 141.

Chipper's is off-the-charts ridiculous, 196!

Here's a list of 3B who are pretty easily in the same league as Aramis:

Chipper (getting older)

ARod (obviously)

Wright (IMO the best 3B out there, 34 steals in 07 adds to his already impressive offense and defense)

And a couple young guys who have had seasons better than Aramis and could end up at least as effective if not more so on offense:

Braun

Atkins

Not that Aramis is a slouch, but 3B is pretty decent on talent right now, especially in the NL.

Braun isn't a 3B anymore.

Atkins isn't even close, and he's only a year younger than Rammy.

Close is relative I suppose. Since '06 Atkins has been a little low on slugging, but in '06 he bested Ramirez in pretty much every relevant offensive category. This year isn't looking much better for him, but he's shown the ability to put up those kind of numbers. In '07 he bettered him in RBI and Runs, about the only category he was low in was slugging.
