Maybe he just needs a dose of Consistenyl.

My golf game sure does, but there's another thread for that discussion...

Lou seems to be wondering if Marmol might be tipping his pitches.

Piniella now is wondering if Marmol is tipping his pitches.

"It's hard to give up home runs like he has been giving them up on a consistent basis, even if you tell the hitter what's coming," Piniella said. "Maybe he is. Maybe he's doing something, so we're going to look at the film [Friday] in St. Louis. It's starting to be a little bit of a concern, to be quite honest."

That fastball didn't need to be tipped today... a 2-0 pitch where he put it is going to get mashed by anybody. he got behind and threw a high fastball where he should and usually does drop his awesome slider down the middle.

STARTING to be a LITTLE bit of a concern?

Do you want him to say its a major concern and have Marmol start to question himself?

The only way Durham catches up to that 94 mph fastball near the letters on the first pitch two nights ago is if he's looking for it. That doesn't mean Marmol tipped it off, but they still need to see if he's doing it or if more and more hitters are looking fastball and being told to lay off his slider. Yesterday, the fastball to Aurilia was only 91 mph, but he went after a fastball that was also above the belt on a 2-0 pitch and likely would have been called ball 3 if he let it go by. As you said, it's often a spot where he throws a slider in for a called strike and perhaps batters are going up there with the approach to not bother with that pitch when they're ahead in the count. They may have also noticed something about where he tends to throw that fastball.

I don't think he'd be saying anything that Marmol doesn't already know.

Its disturbing that Marmol gets brought into a game when they're up 6 runs in the 8th. Tonight wasn't the first time. Lou gets a free ride where Dusty would have been nailed for it.They carrying what,12 pitchers? If theres a pitcher in the pen they can't bring in that situation, they don't belong on the team,or in the majors.

Re-post from the game thread:

6 runs is the new backup save for Lou. He won't use Wood in these situations, but if we're only up by a mere 6 runs, he only feels comfortable with Howry or Marmol finishing it out. It's maddening.

Most recent games where we lead by more than 3:

7/6: Cotts-Marmol-Howry(4-1, 6-1, 7-1 by inning)

6/30: Wood for the 9th (9-2)

6/22: Howry for the 9th (7-1)

6/21: Marmol(11-5), Howry(11-6), Wood (11-7)

6/15: Eyre(7-0), Marmol(7-1), Cotts(7-1), Wood(7-3)

6/14: Marmol(6-1), Howry(6-1)

6/11: Dempster CG (7-2)

6/10: LIEBER!!!! (10-5)

Seriously, Lou, it's not even like our top relievers are performing that well in these situations. SAVE THEM

bump

Why? At least add something of value (I know that's incredibly difficult for you, specifically) rather than just saying "bump."
