so when Phelps is all done with competitive swimming, be it this year or after one or two more Olympics, then what? It's gotta be tough to have your life defined by one thing (very early) and then switch gears into "normal" life. I guess he could coach swimming or something.

Kick back and live the life off the millions you make in endorsements.

well, there's that, but he's obviously going pro after this showing, right?

Or take advantage of the 45 condoms each Olympian is averaging this year.

he's the male equivalent of Oprah -- someone somebody would only hook up with just to say they did. he's one ugly bastard

Except he's a world class athlete and not a tub of lard.

I would have used Mick Jagger as an example.

fair enough, Phelps is the male equivalent of Mick Jagger

“Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” Those famous words uttered by President Ronald Reagan in a speech at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin on June 12, 1987, would forever change the course of history. It was these words that marked the beginning of the end of communism.

Albania

Bulgaria

Czechoslovakia

East Germany

Hungary

Mongolia

Poland

Romania

U.S.S.R

It's too bad the college kids protesting in Tiananmen Square didn't know that before they were run over by tanks.

ENOUGH WITH THE SYNCHRONIZED DIVING

I'm not complaining, but I also didn't realize beach volleyball would receive so much primo coverage.

so does phelps swim tonight?

From the nbc olympics site:

Primetime

Katie Hoff and Natalie Coughlin lead the American women's 4x200m free relay team in a swim for gold (LIVE ET/CT). Plus, the women's 200m fly, men's 200m breast, men's 100m free, and Michael Phelps continues his historic quest: On this night, no finals, but he swims to advance out of the 200m IM semis.
