It will never end. After the Gordon debacle things will never be the same. If you don't think an Illini fan can hold a grudge just ask an Iowa fan. Welcome to at least thirty years of hatred and pissing matches.

If we ever win a title I think that will fade away too. Indiana took just one player. Iowa tried to railroad our program.

 

By taking that one player, IU did railroad our program. Luckily it appears we have recovered, and they came out of the whole situation with a whole lot of egg on their face. Anyone know when the NCAA ruling is due?

 

Not really. No matter what, EJ was one and done. And even with Gordon, Illinois probably only goes as far as IU did last year. So Gordon and Sampson weren't even close to "railroading Illinois' program."

Its funny that everybody starts saying Illinois fans wont let it go when all this started because an IU fan got upset SSR gave his opinion on IU. He or nobody here was talking smack about IU and there was actually a decent convo between IU and UI fans until 1 IU fan got his panties in a bunch. Whatever Im ready for the season.

i believe there was talk about iu challenging for the conference title. most iu fans disagreed, but i think that it was mentioned by someone. others believe that iu will be a tourney team based on one good recruiting class playing their first year of college basketball. i can tell you that it's hard to do that, especially since i don't think crean's all that great of a coach, nor do i believe that weber is, either, for the record. crean parlayed a final four appearance 5 years ago into a top 5 job. he's a tireless recruiter, though.

That's next year; the Purdue fan clearly was talking about this year.

 

The one poster mentioned "contending" next year, but clarified that he didn't mean winning the Big Ten but merely being an upper-echelon team (I'd still say that's overly optimistic, but nearly as much). As for next year, I think IU will have a good chance at being a tournament team. They add a top-10 class, plus Jeremiah Rivers, to a core of decent players who will have amassed a ton of playing time this year. Age and experience is no longer as imperative as it used to be. The Big Ten will be much improved, but that also means more tournament slots from the conference to go around.

 

I also agree regarding Crean. He was a great selection, but not so much because he's a wonderful tactical coach. I'd say he's above average, but nothing great. I'd place him below Weber, too. However, his nascent program has moved and passed the ball better through three games than Davis or Sampson teams ever did. So, I'm happy there.

I think Deron Williams is great, always have. The only player that I didin't think was worth all the accolades was Frank Williams. That has gotten me in trouble with many Illini fans.

Frank Williams was a pretty special college player. I don't know how you think otherwise.

I guess I always just expected more out of him from all the hype. I thnk he was good, but I don't think I'd call hom special. Hell, former Illini fan favorite and campus drunk Tom Coverale put up pretty comparable numbers within the same time period. I wouldn't call him special either.

No one is a lock for a one seed even North Carolina. One injury for a week could mkae them lose two games and cost them a one seed. Purdue I would say is going to be a 2 or 3 seed but a lock to be a top 5 seed. I'm not a unrealistic fan. That's what happens when you are a journalist you are able to see everything and not have the blinders on.
