On another note I don't think anyone mentioned before a Ball State freshman (Jarrod Jones) had 21 pts 13 rebs 2 stls and a block in his first game Saturday. He's 6'9" and looks like he will be a dominant force in the MAC.

Jones did so against an Eastern Illinois team that is 1. really, really bad and 2. very undersized

If my assumptions are correct, he was probably guarded by a guy who is very similar in build to Mike Davis (UI) for a lot of the game... I have a few classes with EIU's center... he's awfully skinny

Oh I know it was against awful competition and he won't average that. I expect 15-7 or so. Most of the MAC's big mean are 6'8" twigs so its not like he will start facing much bigger guys. Still 15-7 will one of the best starts to a career in recent years for the MAC.

Illinois has a decent chance to be the first Big Ten team to lose a game this year...unless they can somehow drag Thursday's game out long enough for the UCLA-Michigan game to end.

I wouldn't bank on Michigan losing Thursday.

Somebodies pessimistic after that first game.

Nah, young team on the road for the first time and Beilein's system has given UCLA fits each of the last three years. If Holiday or Lee can lock up Manny Harris like Westbrook did last year, the Bruins should be fine.

Geez, Oregon lost to Oakland. Thanks for the contribution to the conference, Washington and Oregon.

Oakland is supposed to be pretty decent and win the Summit League (old Mid-Con) this year. Iowa plays them Sunday night.

Then again Oregon only beat Northern Colorado by 2. Howard beat Oregon State, Portland beat Washington. That conference is going to be goofy.

I think we win that game. Hell we throttled ASU last year, who was a lot better than this Vandy team. We won't start to suck until conference time.

i'm hoping that's the case...i think the defense will keep it somewhat close even if they don't pull out the win...do the illini have an answer for ogilvy though?

If Michigan stays within 20 I consider it a success.

Only a ton of fouls to run at him. No we don't, but I imagine we will be able to keep it close. Plus we have the added bonus of not having Shaun Pruitt and Brian Randle to piss away a late lead at the free throw line this year.

DePaul hosts Albany on campus tonight at McGrath Arena. I'll be hammered before and after the game at McGee's. I'll have to be to watch this garbage. They'll beat Albany, but should finish around .500 again this year.

I think we'll be better than last year. Koshwal and Dar Tucker are Sophomores and I think were honorable mention for preseason All Big East. Of course, the last time I got excited about a DePaul tandem it was Sammy Mejia and Wilson Chandler, and that didn't turn out well. I think a decent season and a NIT bid are possible.

I'll be there tonight too and probably drinking beforehand as well. Not sure if I'll be at McGee's though. I feel like I outgrew that place.

I hate Wainwright too btw. He's an ok recruiter and a mediocre coach, but he' just not the guy that's going to bring DePaul back to prominence (if that's possible). Personally, I'm still really upset that Leito left for UVA a few years back. He was really building something solid...its not like he was coaching some no name school or something. Him leaving belittled the program into small time status. But then again, if Tom Crean can leave a very successfully built Marquette team, I guess its not as big of a shame as I'm making it. Though UVA is NOT in the same class as IU.

Well, DePaul won by 11, but it was brutal. Dar Tucker had a monster 360 dunk and played well. The defense was OK, but the rebounding and "offense" were brutal. There is absolutely no offensive system, just a bunch of dribbling and ball screening. Garbage. It's going to be a long year in the Big East.

your coach seems to be a nice enough guy, it's just that he's terrible at coaching basketball.

DePaul built up a huge lead by having incredibly hot shooting from 3 point range. They were jacking up shots with a hand in their face consistently. The one thing they did do well was push the ball and initiate fast breaks, but whenever they had to run their half court offense, they looked lost and had no rhythm. That's when they started jacking up contested shots that eventually stopped falling in the second half. Dar Tucker looked really good, but I'm really surprised how poor Mac Koshwal played offensively. He was good on the glass, and really active defensively (got his hand on a lot of balls), but whenever he got the ball in the post, he failed.

It will be a long season but there will be adjustments

Another pretty dominant win against Easter Michigan who I read is supposed to win the MAC west. Next up Loyola?

They were picked to finish second in the West actually although for some reason they were the only West team to get a vote to win the MAC Tournament.

Oh and Eastern played without their best player Carlos Medlock. Although he's a guard and Kramer would have shut him down.

A better UCLA team last year was losing with less than 8 minutes in the second half and only beat Michigan by 15.

I know but the team we played wasn't the team people think can win the MAC West.
