Nice.... drag him out to L.A. and then fire him after one game (a win, no less). I mean, a press release at 3:15 A.M.? Pathetic.

Those 2 New York franchises sure are classy.

Agreed. Pretty ridiculous.

Rick Peterson and 1B Coach Tom Nieto were also let go.

Fire the guy who was actually able to put Ollie Perez together and who Maine credits with all his success? Good job.

Minaya needs to fire himself.

No Minaya has gotten the talent there (who wouldn't with that payroll but still). You see this a lot especially in baseball. A manager can be great but once the team gets down for a any period of time that manager almost never can get them back. His voice just doesn't get them motivated anymore and they lose their mojo. Sometimes a manager can be great and the team isn't losing because of him so much as the team just not fully believing in what he is saying even if he saying the right stuff. All a GM can do is get a new manager aka a new voice. I guess he could overhaul the roster but that takes years while getting a new voice takes hours.

Living through the "amazing mets" overtaking the Cubs in 69 I can only feel a sick amd twisted yet wonderful glee in their collapse last fall and now their being in complete disarray

While in my normal life I would never take any pleasure in someone's misfortune, this tickles me

Yea, 69 was that bad

Now that Willie will not be part of the mets I hope he lands on his feet

Why now?

They still have time to pull out a division crown. The Phillies aren't that good.

And the Mets are?

Very talented and more than capable of winning the division. Whether they do or not depends on health and the talent on the field.

Why hasn't there been talk of Jim Leyland and his job security? There isn't much difference between Leyland and Randolph besides Leyland's reputation. The Tigers are playing worse than the Mets (Not the last couple of games) and they had higher expectations.

Leyland didn't trade for Willis. And Detroiters have bigger concerns than Tigers baseball.

Leyland is the one who insists on putting Brandon Inge in the lineup every other day. You also can't say that Willis is the only problem for the Tigers. What happend to 1000 runs?

Also what would those bigger concerns be?

Posted

That lineup is was too injury-prone to stay on the field long enough to score 1000 runs.

I'd call living in Detroit a big concern.

Posted

Leyland wasn't at the helm of a team that blew a 7 game lead in September

make no mistake about it though, if the Tigers miss the playoffs he'll be fired too

I've heard about this all day living here on Long Island. I've been listening to my Met friends rant about it and I'm happy I'm not with them. Some info per my friend:

- When the Mets sputtered in April, the backstabbing began, with Randolph being undermined along the way. Words of Randolph's honest player evaluations in those staff meetings somehow made their way to the ears of players. That left the manager in a brutal position of trying to draw performance out of veterans who heard that behind closed doors the manager wasn't so sure if they had the right stuff anymore.

- Well... according to Eddie C., the Wilpons ordered this yesterday morning before Omar flew out to CA. Omar was still going to hold off....

- "Any room in cubs nation?"
