Ummm...so....I have nothing to say about this picture except that it is a "unique" photograph of Honus Wagner from very, very early in his career:

Nice panoramic shot of the 1928 Cubs. Some great players on that team including HOFers Gabby Hartnett, Hack Wilson, and Kiki Cuyler.

This is another terrific one:

1907 World Series Gm.2 (Oct.9) Detroit v. Chicago (West Side Grounds, Chicago). Jack Pfiester is pitching for the Cubbies in this shot. He had an incredible career year in 1907, going 14-9 with a 1.15 ERA and had a 216 ERA+.

I was just thinking that Crazy 08 would make an OUTSTANDING miniseries like on HBO or something similar to John Adams or Band of Brothers. A single film probably wouldn't be able to contain all the information necessary for Crazy 08 to be a cohesive story, but a 7 or 8 part miniseries would be terrific.

Think about all the characters that would be prominent in it, guys like John McGraw, Honus Wagner, Rube Waddell, Frank Chance, Three Finger Brown, Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson, Johnny Evers, etc. Also, how cool would it be to see the Merkle Boner played out on screen?

OK, wow, this is definitely the prettiest picture I've ever posted in this thread. Oh, and check out all the doo-rags that half the crowd is wearing....weird.

Game 2, 1907 World Series, Cubs v. Tigers:

I've thought the same thing. Bronx Burning (or whatever the actual title was) shows that a good miniseries can be made based on a season. Maybe the MLB Network would consider a miniseries for the offseason when they need to fill in the gaps.

Again, I love the pics OMC.

I posted a link on another board I frequent to this thread. We were having a baseball history related discussion and I though some of them would enjoy all the pics and stats that are in here.

I even have my son checking this thread some now. Got him hooked on the history of the game from all of the pics.

I may have posted this before, but this is about as good as it gets.

Wrigley Field, July 27, 1929. Cubs v. Phillies. That's Hack in center and Hornsby at second.

I've just recently discovered this guy. Really stinks he had a career ending injury so soon into his career (thanks to suffering third degree burns when his trainer caught his leg on fire and then nearly losing that leg to gangrene).

What the heck is up with his home run totals in the few seasons he played? We'd be calling this guy a juicer who got off his roids if he played today:

1929: 626 AB's, .343/.397/.580, 25 HR, 137 RBI, 148 OPS+

1930: 602 AB's, .326/.372/.507, 20 HR, 135 RBI, 118 OPS+

1931: 517 AB's, .325/.401/.445, 3 HR, 87 RBI, 119 OPS+

1932: 392 AB's, .367/.454/.513, 8 HR, 60 RBI, 151 OPS+

But what's really funny is that his BA and OBP increased, despite his HR being on decline, even though his AB's were somewhat cut short. I would have wondered how many HR's he could had hit in the 32' season, if you notice his AB's was cut almost in half, comparing to the 29' and 30' season.

Oh, and this thread rocks. I am going to use some of your wonderful fantastic pictures OMC, if you don't mind.

A little modified, but I figured it's appropriate for this thread.

Tim, people will come Tim. They'll come to NorthSideBaseBall.com for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your homepage not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your homepage as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. It's only $50 per person. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the General Baseball thread; view in the Baseball History thread on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the thread, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll look at the photos and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Tim. The one constant through all the years, Tim, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This thread, this game: it's a part of our past, Tim. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Tim. People will most definitely come.

that's nuts. Definitely has to be from the 20's when the KKK was attempting to be somewhat mainstream. I believe that massive rally with the tens of thousands of klansmen that you always see pictures of was around that same time, '25 or '26.

Yup. That was from the Washington Post in 1926.

Considering hitting ability, power, patience, speed, baserunning, and defense, who would you say are best at each position?

I'm gonna go with

C- Ivan Rodriguez

1B - Jeff Bagwell

2B - Joe Morgan

SS - Honus Wagner

3B - George Brett

LF - Barroid

CF - Willie Mays

RF - Frank Robinson

Thought this was interesting. There are only 5 players still playing who made their debut in the 80's:

Randy Johnson

Gary Sheffield

Jamie Moyer

Omar Vizquel

Ken Griffey Jr.
