St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Todd Wellemeyer, who was 4-0 with a 2.19 ERA in May, has been voted National League Pitcher of the Month.

Wellemeyer won a career-best four straight decisions, tossing 37.0 innings in which he allowed 11 runs (nine earned), 28 hits (two home runs) and recorded 21 strikeouts and 12 walks. On May 9th at Milwaukee, the 29-year-old worked 6.0 innings and did not allow an earned run in his no-decision. In two starts vs. Pittsburgh (May 14th and May 30th), Todd worked seven innings and limited the Pirates to one run en route to winning both games. St. Louis acquired Wellemeyer via a waiver claim last May. Last season, the Kentucky native went 3-2 with a 3.11 ERA in 20 games (11 starts) for the Cardinals.

As much as it disgusts me, Dempster delivering as well as he has is almost as unprecedented.

EDIT: This still doesn't account for every other bizarro hitting and pitching performance they've had

I don't know that it's a bizarro pitching performance.

You could argue that he was the best pitcher for the Royals in 2006.

i always liked Wellemeyer and I'm glad he's found success once given a chance to start

and even better that it's a team that doesn't pose any threat to us in the standings and won't for a few years

When they are playing over .600 ball 1/3rd of the way into the year, they are a good team that could beat us. Thinking otherwise is just foolish.

I wouldn't be so sure, the farm system is looking pretty deep and there is going to be a lot of money coming off the books in the next 2 years. The Cardinals payroll is pretty much 60 million right now.

At some point we have to accept the fact that the Cardinals' coaching staff is very, very good.

No matter who is in the rotation.

Someone buy me a jersey and throw me out there

What is particularly deep about your farm system?

let's not ignore Pujols' elbow and the lost season they'll have once it finally blows. i'm just really not sold on their young talent whatsoever. they have a lot of work to do to be a formidable contender.

Pretty much everything but the middle infield.

I keep hearing about it, but it's been this way for 5 years and he's currently hitting .363 .486 .642

As for the young talent, who are you not sold on?

Not stacked with future all stars or anything, other than probably Rasmus. Lots of good pitching prospects. To be fair, Mather was had an OPS over 1.000 this year when he was brought up.

PLANTAR FACITIS IS GOING TO END PUJOLS' CAREER!!!

Remember that gem from like 3-4 years ago?

I don't buy the elbow thing one bit. I'm starting to believe it's nonsense they feed the media to make other people think he's losing it so they keep pitching to him

Except Marquis.

I could fill you in, but I don't think it'd matter.

He's going to be just fine.

Not sure why you say it like that. Last I had heard they werent even starting him every game, so please fill me in? Injury, something else, what?

he's one of the best prospects in baseball, now playing in AAA at the age of 21
