There are two things objective, statistical analysis can tell us (just like it told us at this time last year that the Cubs had a decent chance to pass the Brewers):

 

1) The Cubs are better than the Cardinals, and it's not close, and are almost certainly the NL's best team.

 

2) That still leaves a small but real chance that the Cardinals will manage to finish ahead of them.

 

 

I'm not going to let No. 2 ruin my appreciation of No. 1.
