edmonds should not bat higher than 9th.

7th anyway. DeRosa must have laughed when he saw he was behind Edmonds...

...in the lineup.

Even our forfeit lineup look pretty good.

Theres nothing wrong with Ramirez is there?

He's 0-10 against the starter, so it's a nice day to give him a break.

Except that past performance in 10 at-bats has absolutely no predictive value.

I used to give the benefit of the doubt to managers who made lineup decisions based on past batter-pitcher performance (Brenly goes crazy over those stats), but the research of Lichtman/Tango/Dolphin pretty much squashes the idea that certain pitchers own certain hitters and vice versa.

Yeah, but if Aramis is uncomfortable with a guy and needs a day off, just kill two birds with one stone.

I think it has to hold some value in certain situations. Whether it be a tought LH against a fellow lefty which is not as common as the R/R matchup.

Obviously 0-10 is a very small sample size, but I don't think you can completely disregard it in other instances. Some guys, for whatever reason, hit well against certain pitchers.

Hasn't Piniella been talking about trying to give players a day off? I remember him saying Lee didn't want one.

Fine, but it still doesn't hurt to give him a day off. In the larger picture, I'd rather have it now against a craptacular team.

I agree with the day off, but wouldnt you rather rest him against Rusch or De La Rosa instead of their top pitcher? I know hes 0-10 against him, and if it were Theriot or DeRosa, Id say sit him, but with Ramirez, I dont know it that small a sampling is reason enough to sit him.

Geo coulda took his glove off and threw that ball to 2nd left handed and still woulda thrown out Taveras. He's getting a horrible jump over there.

Bah, Lilly has been a big disappointment so far this year.

Eh, he's been pretty solid since April 22: 3.53 ERA 1.18 WHIP
