Of course it happens when YOUR SUNGLASSES ARE FLIPPED UP

His sunglasses were flipped down. He only flipped them back up after the play.

Stupid Soriano and his 2-run HR.

Yeah, he got 2 runs. But he also basically allowed 2 runs. The blown HR in the first that he should've caught anyway, and the 9th inning catch (or lack thereof)

3 then. Cause they don't get the last one without him dropping a ball that most of us on here would have caught.

most of the people at nsbb couldn't have caught that ball if you shipped it to them UPS.

If you have played baseball at all before, I am thinking you catch that one.

He should've made more of an effort, but how can you say that a ball that hit on the back of the top padding up against the metal rail should have been caught?

A decent outfielder catches that ball. The wall is like 6 feet tall.

Apparently not, since Soriano has been playing baseball for about two decades.

All he needs to do... ALL he needs to do, is catch a routine fly ball that he's caught 1,000 times before, and we're all celebrating.

Yes, he hit the 2-run homer, but he also cost us the game, so that cancels out, don't you think?

he lost it in the sun, it's not like someone handed it to him. it happens, it's just unfortunate that it happened when it did. go eat some sympathy food and take a break

didn't they say his shades were down?

Yes, they definitely were down.

2 runs > 1 run

True. But if he judges the Rivas ball correctly, he could have robbed that one. So, he breaks even today. For 18 million, I'd hope for better.

Yeah, but he is a butcher in the field. I am not saying any of us could hit a two run homer, but anyone should make that last catch.

2 runs > 1 run

The difference is that he's expected to hit home runs. He shouldn't be congratulated for successfully doing the ONE thing he does well. He gets paid 18 mil a year, so he better hit home runs.

Stop acting like it evens out, because it doesn't.

So if Hoffpauir, making major league minimum, and hit a 2-run HR but dropped the same fly ball, he would have come out ahead?

And I never said it evened out. I said he came out ahead.

Are we 9-3 vs. the pirates now? this loss ain't that big of a deal.

Yeah, in the long run, it's not that big. But we're overreacting because we just had 2 extra-inning losses to a cupcake team we won't play again until August. And we were a blown HR call (although Rivas might've scored anyway) in the 1st or one easy fly ball catch in the 9th from winning.

But really, we are still 8 games over. We should be fine if we can take care of bussiness in September.

Let's just hope the Cards lose again. They are tied 1-1 now.

Whether this loss is big or not, we won't really know until September. If it is a tight division and/or wild card race in the final week then it could loom rather large. Every loss snatched from the jaws of victory counts equally in the end.

Checked again, still no god.

I'm pretty sure God doesn't give care whether the Cubs win or lose.

He only cares if the NFL Cardinals are still in St Louis.

Soriano definitely wasn't the worst part of the day.

Lilly was definitely the worst today. 12 baserunners in 6 innings, including 3 home runs and 2 doubles. He's incredibly lucky that he only gave up 4 in his 6 innings.

Fukudome also had a tough day. 0-5 with 2 K's and Theriot wasn't much better, going 0-4 with a walk.

Soriano's misplay might have looked the most ridiculous, but the timing of the play is the only reason people are blaming him. Overall, his day was ok.

Not buying this argument in the least.

She also cares about keeping Lute Olson alive forever.

Dude, with the way Lute is running things in Tucson, this is a good thing. :D

2-1 Dodgers over Cy Welly as Martin hits an RBI double to CF.

A player is expected to get hits sometimes. That's what they get paid to do. They're also paid to catch routine fly balls. Saying it's play to screw up a routine play because you did something else you're expected to do is silly.

This is all true. But, I still hate the whiny little girl.

I just hope that if we don't make the playoffs, we don't look back at any losses before September and say "this is why we didn't get in". At worst, we'll be leading the wild card after today. So it's not an uphill battle like it was in 07.

He was staring straight into the sun, it happens. It sucks, and there's not much you can do about it, especially when you already have sunglasses on. Now, the "well Bay caught a fly ball an inning later" is the argument where you question whether or not people have played baseball. Trajectory is everything in those situations.
