I don't care to who and I don't care for what (a bag of baseballs, some new bats, some athletic supporters, an open bar tab somewhere, an extra value meal not even supersized) just please get him out of the starting rotation and off this team. Bring back Marshall, bring back Hill, put Lieber in his spot, put a tee with a ball on it at home plate...I don't care. These are the months where Marquis is supposed to be "more dominant" and what has he done so far? An ERA of 5.26, a WHIP of 1.73, a K/B ratio of 24/16 and a BAA of .327 Craptastic. Everytime before one of his starts the key to the game is for Jason to keep the ball down and what usually happens? He keeps it down for 2 maybe 3 innings and then the sinker and slider starts to flatten out and his fastball tails back towards the hitter. Im tired of it. He didn't even deserve this spot coming out of Spring Training. Please take your undeserved, overpaid salary elsewhere. In fact if you actually wanna help the team get in your car and drive it into the car carrying Jim Edmonds. Two problems taken care of in the same event.

This definitely qualifies as a rant. Oh, and this is awesome!

those stats (save bb:k) are skewed in part by a .356 BABIP, good for 7th worst in all of baseball

Okay. Hitters are also slugging .484 against Marquis. Hill? .324. Hill's struggles are control-inflicted. Once he stops walking people, he'll be very good again. But, Marquis? He'll still be terrible.

yes, and the high slugging is fueled by the high BA, fueled by a high BABIP.

and I like Hill too. not sure where the dichotomy appeared.

Marquis is a guy you can survive having on your roster, but when there are other options, you shouldn't have to.

Now, you put him on a team where Sean Marshall - better in all respects a year ago - is a loogy, rich hill - probably the best pitcher on the team over the full 2006 season - is in AAA, and 50 at bats decides the future of a 23 year old CF in favor of Jim Edmonds, it's pretty frustrating.

His BABIP is that high because he's giving up a staggering amount of line drives, 24.8%.

i agree, that is cause for concern.

but i dont see the fiasco of allowing Hill to figure out his release point at AAA because i really am not worried about whether we'll take the division. Hill is a guy we will lean on the playoffs.

Josh Hancock tried that last year, but this Edmonds guy appears to have body double.

I'm gonna have to call "too soon" on this one [-X

7 starts, 39.1 innings, 5.26 ERA. That's roughly 6 innings per start, and less than four runs per start. I think in the major leagues, that's fifth-starter ability.

He had three straight solid starts in April. Last year he did something similar, struggled in mid-May, then did a nice job in June, before the slow second half fade. Something similar happened in 2006. That's what Jason Marquis is. It's not worth $9 million, but it's also not my money.

IF Rich Hill is in the minors for his own good, unrelated to whether he is one of the five best starting options on the Cubs, sticking with Marquis isn't such a bad option. Rookies rarely stay strong for the entire year -- whether it is Gallagher or Marshall, adding them to the rotation after the break (even though it means 7 more starts from Marquis) might be the right way to go.

And if Hill can come back to the Cubs by end of May, they may just be able to get something decent out of Marquis, then be in a position to jettison him or let him rust in the pen.

And yet the Cubs have a better option than Marquis in Marshall, too. The simple fact is that Marquis is terrible, has been terrible, and will continue to be terrible. It was a bad signing at the time, and it remains a bad signing today. Frankly, of all the starters, Marquis should be consider as the last option.

Lilly

Hill

Marshall

Dempster

Gallagher

You weren't around much last season were you?

I honestly believe the plan is to dump Marquis by the ASB and replace him with Marshall, whose innings they're limiting now so he'll be strong at the end of the season. Meanwhile, look around at the fifth starters other teams are throwing out there.

Yeah, but what's his LD% against?

I sure was. I didn't think the jokes were funny or appropriate last year, either. It doesn't make a difference to me whether he was drunk or not, the death of a young kid with a bright future isn't something to be ridiculed.

That said, open season on TLR's DUI, that's effing hilarious

Batters are doing .327/.385/.484 off of him. He's lucky his ERA isn't over 6. What's worse is this is the time of year when he's supposed to be good.

So, let's see... a LD% against of .248+.120=.368

In other words... Marquis has been a little lucky.

No they're not. He just sucks.

how are they not? his previous worst for the past 5 seasons was .305. his FIP's actually as good as it's ever been.

Probably has to do with his HR:9 and his line drive (against) %.

He's missing badly in the zone. Sometimes a high BABIP tells a true story.

The true story is that Marquis sucks, he's not unlucky.
