So is Marmol unavailable tomorrow after heroically preserving today's agme?

4.2 innings in the last 4 days, I'm sure he'll be in

He's got at least 5 innings in him for tomorrow. Don't ask about July, August, and September though.

I'm glad we have a new long man up from AAA!!

I can understand why they don't use Gallagher. They need him to be fresh in case Marquis completely implodes tomorrow, and Gallagher is the only one in the bullpen (currently) that can throw 3+ innings if needed (I don't think Marshall can right now after a couple weeks of bullpen work).

Marmol for 2 innings though? Simply inexcusable. It should have been Wuertz and Marshall to finish it out.

Now, I don't think it's a decision that will have much long-term impact. Maybe the Cubs miss him tomorrow, maybe they don't. It's still a bad decision though.

Just saw the replay of the Pujol's homer. Glad to see him staring at a solo homer that put the Cards within 3 runs.

25 pitches is not that bad. That won't destroy marmol's arm.

I'm less worried about his arm long-term than his availability for high-leverage situations. I'd hate to be in extra-innings and have to use Chad Fox or something.

25 pitches isn't bad, but when he threw 13 of them for no damn reason, and all the warmup pitches between innings, yes it could hurt him.

Maybe Jeff Samardzija is getting called up sooner than we expected. We're going to need more arms for this bullpen at the rate Lou's going.

Oh dear lord no. If anyone in our organization would make me feel uncomfortable with a six-run lead, it's him.

Heaven forbid.

No reason for Marshall to get up today and then not come in. Completely unexcusable to use Marmol for 2 innings. Lou needs to get his loogy lovefest out of his head. Marshall can pitch more to more than 1 left handed hitter.

Lets not forget the pitches he threw in the 19-5 game. You use Marmol when you have to not when you have big leads.

You know it's coming.

I fully expect Marmol to experience a period of dead arm some time in July with Wood having soreness/tendinitis around the same time. This is going to be a crazed summer.

Just got home. Nice win! What the hell is Lou thinking with Marmol going 2 innings? Seriously??!?! It's beyond stupid!

Simple rule: If you can't occasionally make AA hitters swing and miss, you can't get big-leaguers out.

Cubs win!!!!

Are you sure? From what I'm reading, all hell has broke loose and the cubs haven't done anything right all year.

I'm having flashbacks.

"Shut up you stupid stathead, we're in the middle of a pennant race and Prior is a horse. He's got perfect mechanics and nothing will happen! Pitchers used to throw this many pitchers lal the time!"

Not quite the same thing, I know :)

I don't mind him getting 1 inning today, since he was the only guy that didn't throw yesterday. Those arms are valuable too, regardless of being lesser than Marmol. But you don't throw Marmol in the 9th. Put Marshall in, and you have all pitchers are your disposal tomorrow night. Marmol now may not be able to go tomorrow. But I'd imagine Lou would throw him in there, because it's a night game tomorrow. He wouldn't have to pitch til likely after 9PM CST, which gives him over 24 hours off.
