My thought exactly. I loved seeing that one get bumped too.

In terms of the Wood vs. Marmol friendly debate at the end of the game thread,

Both have a VORP of 13.4, While Marmol has a better WXRL (Marmol is 3rd in the bigs in WXRL and Woody is 32). I have to admit I'm not fully knowledegeable about the application of WXRL other than knowing it's a pretty darn good metric to judge relievers on.

I'm certainly not saying that stat doesn't have any value, because honestly I have no idea what it is, but Wood is #32 (just behind our old friend Ohman). Certainly you would have to agree he's a top 10, if not top 5, reliever in the game.

Yep I still think he is behind KRod, Mariano, and Nathan. I am also partial to Marmol. But, Wood has been amazing.

It's expected wins over a replacement level pitcher. However, it goes a step further by adjusting for quality of hitters faced. That way you can't just come in and face garbage players each game and show off a .80 WHIP -- it's showing how good the guys you faced were and how much better you were than a replacement pitcher.

Wasn't Whitey a big part of that thread?

oh ya, that's a great stat..... There's gotta be at least 30 relievers that can chuck it better than Wood---- if I remember right, Ohman's "rising" fastball gets to 99-100 mph.

Just funnin'..... Just saw the highlights from last night-- WOW!--- Woody had his A+ game goin'--- that's fun!

So basically, if Wood were to have faced tougher hitters up to this point, he'd have a higher WXRL. I see the value in that, but it's not like he has any control over who he faces. When he's been on his game this year (which has been more times than not), then I don't anybody who steps into the batters box has much of a chance.

Wow, your right about Rivera

40/3 K:BB

.566 WHIP

.76 ERA

I thought he was starting to decline last year. I had no idea he was putting up those kind of numbers this year. Maybe I haven't been watching enough ESPN?

He's God Shamgod.

oh that's just top notch, kudos

My wife didn't understand when I said it last night. But she knows all about the magical powers of Wood.
