The Cubs go back to their winning ways tomorrow. Dempster pitches 8 shutout innings and Kerry Wood pitches a perfect ninth for the save. Derrek Lee hits two HRs. Cubs win 6-0

I'm very interested to see how Kerry gets a 6-run save having only pitched the bottom of the 9th.

This CSN crap needs to stop. At least when I'm home to see games. At least until mid may when i move back home and get my CSN back.

Dear Lou, Please refrain from even thinking about putting Theriot or Fontenot in Friday's baseball game. Ronny Cedeno and Mark DeRosa can handle the middle infield duties capably, and Reed Johnson is ready for the call in left.

Theriot is white hot right now. Can we at least curb the hate until he cools down?

I don't think it's hate to say Cedeno/DeRosa/Johnson is better than Theriot/Fontenot/DeRosa. It's just the facts.

If Theriot is the hot hand, he should play until he's not hot anymore. Whatever gives us the best chance of winning.

He's 2 for his last 10. If you believe in playing the hot hand, when do you consider a player to no longer be hot? I think it varies depending on the player. But an 0-4 from Ryan Theriot is much less surprising than the 4-5 a couple days before. If DLee or Ramirez mixed in an 0-4 and 2-10 in the middle of a hot month, you wouldn't assume the hot streak was over. But those guys are legit regulars. Theriot's career suggests his hot streaks can come and go, and turn cold in an instant.

Sure, hes 2 for 10, but the fact is that one of those 2 was an incredibly clutch that was the game winner. Essentially, he had one bad game. he went 2-5 the first game, and he happened to get owned by Cook, as did the rest of our offense. Him and Cedeno will hopefully both play until Soriano comes back, and hopefully, by the time that happens, one of them will emerge as our starting shortstop.

Gotta love that picture of Demp.

Dempster was in that picture? Hmm. I thought some really hot girl was pitching for the Cubs today.

The fact that 1 of the 2 was clutch is meaningless.

If you are talking about playing a hot hand, you'll have a hard time justifying calling a weak hitter coming off an 0-4 game who is 2 for his last 10 the hot hand.

I didnt say he was the hot hand. Im just saying you cant bench him after 1 crap game, especially when you can have him and Ronny both playing.

You bench him because he's the lesser player, not because of one crap game. But lots of people are insisting he's the hot hand, that he's white hot, and that he's on a roll. I was pointing out that 0-4 yesterday and 2 for his last 10 takes away from the theory that he's the hot hand.

Lesser player than who? Granted, Ronny Cedeno game up big vs. The Mets, but what else has he done for us? You need more that a couple of clutch hits to be guaranteed a starting job on a contening team.

All Ronny has done is be better at baseball than Theriot. That fact alone should guarantee he get to play.

Seriously. I'm just biased since I don't get CSN Chicago so I can't see the games. I hate resorting to Gameday for things.

Anyway, Go Cubs!

Lineup prediction:

Johnson

Cedeno

Lee

Ramirez

Fukudome

DeRosa

Soto

Theriot

Dempster

That works for me. However, there's no way Lou bats Ronny at 2 and Theriot at 8. It'll be the other way around if that's who's in the lineup.

I wouldn't be so sure. If Lou has proven one thing, its that he jumps to conclusions quickly. Theriot had a bad day yesterday and his last impression of Cedeno was hitting monstrous grand slams. In this case it's the right conclusion, just wrong reasoning. I'm thinking Cedeno hits 7th or higher. That said, Fontenot will probably be leading off with Theriot right behind him.

ETA: According to BR's "Batting Game Score" Theriot didn't just have a bad day yesterday, he had the worst day in the majors.
