I knew the Bears were ok with Grossman and Orton.

Personally it doesn't make sense to me. Grossman could be alright with a good O-Line, but I don't think he's ever going to be a franchise QB. I could see the Bears giving Grossman one more year to prove himself, but at the same time if he fails, what do they do then? You can draft a QB next year, but hes 1 year behind in development. If you took Henne or Brohm now, they have a year holding the clipboard this year.

So what was the thought process? Do the Bears think Grossman will be a Pro Bowler in the future, or is there another QB they are looking at in the later rounds.

Also, I have no idea who that guy we just drafted is, but I don't like it.

Forte is a good back. A reach just like last year though. He or Jamal Charles could have easily been there in the 3rd. They coulda traded down and still picked him up and possibly picked up a 4th rounder.

I would have gone with the DT from Arkansas or perhaps Limas Sweed.

Rotoworld likes him:

Bears selected Tulane RB Matt Forte with the No. 44 pick of the NFL Draft.

Forte is a complete back who will immediately challenge Cedric Benson to be a starter. He is a big back who is a far better blocker than Benson, and has decent long speed and smarts. On a day when the top running backs got drafted as committee partners, Forte could wind up challenging them all as a sleeper with 2008 potential.

limas sweed and malcolm kelly on the board and we take matt forte?

i'm thinking the eagles like either one of those guys, and that's why they traded down - figure they can grab one or the other and grab an extra pick in the process.

A lot of Colts fans liked Matt Forte a lot for #59. Just sayin'.

....59...

True. I'm not necessarily saying it was the right pick, just that people I know who really follow this stuff liked him quite a bit (I haven't really seen him play). I probably would've taken Brohm-Henne, but Forte has potential.

Could any of the QBs left be franchise QBs?

Is there still any question about Grossman's potential in the NFL? Yes, the line was horrible and the backs couldn't do anything. And yes the receivers and Turner were pretty awful.

Guess what? Grossman still can't play.

We need a quarterback. As for Forte, I don't know much about him (a scouting report would be nice) but if he turns out to be productive then it's hard to knock the pick considering how bad the running game was.

It's possible yes.

I wasn't big on the Bears getting a QB in the draft to be honest, but I'm not sure why they picked a RB here.
