No mocking. ESPN reporting Miami signed Jake Long.

 

 

The Miami Dolphins have reached a contract agreement with Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long and will select him with the No. 1 overall pick in Saturday's draft, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

 

The announcement will come at a 1:45 p.m. ET news conference.

I think the NFL used to ask the first team to wait to make the announcement, but I'm sure they guaranteed them the pick in advance and there was never any concern about losing it. With the new time adjustments, I wouldn't be surprised if the NFL went ahead and announced that pick right away.

I'm assuming the contract is technically pending until they officially take him. If something happened where they ran out of time and the next team took him, the contract would become null and void. It basically comes down to the Dolphins not being idiots and waiting until the end to submit their pick.

He had 15.5 sacks last year despite being double and triple teamed a lot. I'm not sure if he's worth that much, but he's a fantastic player. When the Colts played the Chiefs last year, he was simply unblockable. He'd either break in and pressure the QB, or he'd jump up and knock the pass down.

This pick really sucks for me. I would have absolutely loved taking Jake Long with the third pick. Now, the possibility exists that the falcons will not be able to take either Long or Dorsey and have to take Ryan.
