With all the hullabaloo that is going on in the Bronx and a new owner (potentially) coming on board for the Cubs I got to thinking about Brian Cashman. He'd be a great fit.

Flame ON!

That really isn't fair. We don't know how many of those guys he wanted and how many George told him he wanted.

I think its very far fetched to assume Hendry will not keep his job with a new owner. If the Cubs win the division that is two straight for the eyes of a new owner. To expect any radical changes after two straight playoff runs with a new owner, and likely that the owner will have never had owned an MLB team to me is unlikely. They won't get rid of Hendry unless they have someone in place prior. At the very least Hendry will be given one season under which they get to watch his day to day movements.

Agreed. It would 2010 at the earliest, for the Cubs to have a new Gm.

Not agreed. There are some leaps of faith in the logic there. It's a long season and the Cubs have played the Pittsburgh AAAA's and played .500 ball against all others. They have Z and a good bullpen. The bullpen will wear down if they don't get some better starts.

This is the Cubs we're talking about.

It must be exhausting to be such a fatalist. They're 13-6 and just hammered the Mets. Enjoy the games and the fact the Cubs look dominant right now.

Now they're above .500 against non-Pittsburgh teams. They're looking very impressive. I think Hendry's safe for at least one more year.

Good to see some rationale on this topic. Whatever your feeleings on Hendry, he and Lou and Randy Bush for that matter seem to be moving in the right direction and if they win the pennant Jim is safe for awhile.

I only agreed with the fact that Hendry isn't going to be fired anytime soon. I've been a Hendry supporter for the past 5 yrs or so. I was agreeing with raw that the Cubs won't be thinking about a change of GMs till 2010, at the earliest. Not that I believe Hendry will be moved at all, anytime soon.

But how can you know? And if you have to assume that his bad choices were potentially George-induced, don't you have to assume the same about his good ones? If you factor in George, then you really have no idea if Cashman is a good GM or a horrible one.

All depends upon who the new owner is. He could have his own guy all picked out to be the new GM of the Cubs. Remember, baseball is the last bastion of the good old boys network. Otherwise Kim Ng would have been named GM a long time ago. She is one sharp lady.

no Kim Ng? I have heard nothing but good things about her, and it would be sort of cool for us to break the Gender Barrier.

i'd hate to see the shirts being sold with an asian FEMALE gm

Ultimately that is the bottom line with Cashman. We don't know what kind of GM he is, and until he is GM in a place where the final decisions are made by him alone then we won't know. I would prefer the Cubs take a chance on someone rather than fnd out how good Cashman is without others meddling and the Yankees' payroll.

This is the Cubs we're talking about.

That you, Marty?

I was gonna say that...

An absurd ending to a post that could've made sense.

Yea, because there's absolutely no truth in that statement whatsoever. The Cubs are the standard bearer for successful franchises.
