In addition to this, I remember during todays game there were two fans behind home plate who would do some kind of faux karate during Fukudome at bats. Why are some people so stupid?

indefensible.

I find this pretty stupid and unfunny, but I can think of things that are worse. I wish people would have a little more respect for other cultures and just not buy them, though.

(Not aimed at snoodmonger) Not quite as unfunny as the shirts themselves are all the pompous or downright violent reactions provoked by them. Faux outrage is not awesome. I'm not crazy about real outrage either when it is a reaction to t-shirts.

so, you're accusing people of lying when they say they're offended?

yeah, i hate those a-holes who are offended by racism, they make me want to just puke.

Not lying, just exaggerating for show.

This makes me think of one of my favorite quotes from Albert Einstein

"there are two things that are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."

Stupid people deserve to be laughed and pointed at. That's the most effective way to get them to stop being stupid. Kudos to the press for putting these dips up for public humiliation.

Where did I say there was nothing worse? I said it was indefensible. That's not an exaggeration.

Want to know what really sucks? (Not aimed at sarcastic) Lame people who think they can ascertain "faux outrage" on a message board. I also don't care for people who are willing to casually brush aside blatantly offensive stuff.

I really wasn't addressing you with the second part of my post.

As for casually brushing it aside, what would you have me do? If I write out an angry post on an internet message board, am I helping anyone? They aren't hurting anybody, they are just being idiots, so I don't see the point in getting angry. If others want to, they are free to do so.

that's just dumb.

it's this type of thinking that allows any victim of racism to be accused of playing the race card.

medgar evers, harry moore, addie may collins, martin luther king. dead, or just playing the race card? by which i mean "exaggerating for show".

Nope, this is unrelated to that. People who are actual victims of racism have a valid complaint. Neither you nor I nor anyone on this board is being victimized by the idiots selling these t-shirts.

I don't need to be victimized by racism to be appalled by it.

Yah, I was like four rows behind those idiots. They were extremely annoying. I was wondering if they were showing up on TV.

So we can't be offended, disgusted or complain about these people because they aren't being racist to us? That's ridiculous.

You can do whatever you like. If you want to post angry messages on an internet forum about these guys, go right ahead.

I just think that to some extent, the offense is not completely genuine. Sometimes it really is, and that is fine. But to some extent, the responses are often conditioned by expectations, as people want to seem properly outraged at something socially unacceptable. And then there are the people who feel it necessary to compete to show how much more outraged they are than everybody else. All that outrage makes talking about race calmly more difficult, which is not a good thing.

That's the first time I'd actually seen the image. What a joke. Either someone's a flat out racist, or they have a really, really bad sense of humor. What bothers me most is that most people won't care that it isn't everyone -- to them we all just became trailer trash.
