I hope he chokes on one of those foot long hotdogs. Wonder where this bitterness comes from, I thought we treated Tom (his son)pretty well when he was here?

Why did everybody throw out all those baseballs on the field? I didn't see the game

i was stuck with the Reds feed of the series 2 of the 3 games, and Thom Brennaman spews some of the most obnoxious nonsense i've ever heard.

in the 12-3 game, Soto came up after Cordero walked the bases full. He grounded out on the first pitch but drove in a run. Brennaman jumps on his jock so fast, saying "now that was just a god awful at-bat. what is this kid thinking?" Sure, he should have taken some pitches, but the team was up by 80 runs and he got an RBI, so who cares?

If some of you are not aware. The bleacher creatures are a different animal out there. Throw the home run ball back , ok I get that. To throw a bunch of balls is classless and makes are fans look like jackasses.

What did he say that was really not true?

Does this team and organization not have a track record of bad decisions, poor teams, etc. We have a new manager every 4-5 years and rebuild.

A few seasons ago "fans" in the bleachers throw trash on the field for a bad call...

All you 20 year olds out in the worst seats in the ballpark (who threw the balls or drops a beer on a player) or some other crap should grow up. In my dreams of the Cubs winning the world series in my lifetime, I hope Billionaire Zell says do it again and I close the bleachers..Make it a family section..

let's be honest, i hate a lot of cubs fans. marty isn't that far off in his assessment. the whole "they'll lose the division because they're the cubs" thing was really lame. but him saying that cubs fans are the most obnoxious isn't that far off.

Yeah, I see a lot of Cubs fans that are tools. But like i said, the vast majority don't fall into that category. The perception arises from the few that congregate in the bleachers closest to the field, and that many fans of less popular teams that have had more success can't stand that the Cubs have a fan base that puts theirs to shame (size wise).

It's akin to the red headed stepchild syndrome Sox fans have. I can empathize with it, but it's still transparent BS.

As for the most obnoxious, I can name a few teams with more obnoxious fans, but not a lot.

Probably. At least there are enough Cub fans to form an actual rowdy crowd though. In the case of some of these teams, "nice fans" = nobody coming to games.

Not sure what anything said during that isn't true.

Throwing 15 balls on the field? [expletive].

Throwing back a ground rule double? Stupid.

Throwing trash on the field? Acting like drunk idiots.

There are people out there who are good, solid Cubs baseball fans. I am sure the majority of the people who post here are like that. However the majority of people at Wrigley Field everyday are drunk college kids or tourists that really could care less about the game.

Marty was right on.

The funny thing to me is that he talks about how the Cubs won't win the division because they always seem to find a way to screw it up. That is so true......wait.....what? They are the defending NL Central champs? How did this happen without the rest of the world knowing? Wait, the rest of the world does know?

So I guess Marty and I are the idiots here?

As for the actions of a few idiots. There are bound to be a few idiots in a crowd of 40,000+, but I guess Marty and Reds fans wouldn't know anything about large crowds, would they?

What a joke.

Exactly. As if Reds fans would be any different if they could consistenty draw a full house.

Marty's just pissed that Cubs fans call GABP their home when they come to Cincy.

Was it classless to throw all those balls on the field? Yeah. But did he have to get on his soapbox to say all of this crap and to make rash generalizations about an entire fanbase? Absolutely not.

The question I have is: Why did those fans throw all those balls on the field?

(Tradition + batting practice balls caught) X booze consumed in bleachers = shenanigans

I'm not really sure how that is being a troll, but whatever floats your boat.

Outside of being 100% false...the intent of a post like that (on a Cubs board) is just to inflame people.

I really dont think he was trying to inflame, just because Cubs fans do not like it, i think that what he said would be what most fans of other teams think about Wrigley. I have been there a few times and know that is not all that is there, but it is the reputation of the stadium and the fan base.

If I went on a Reds forum and said that most the people who go to their games aren't serious fans but just beer swilling, disgusting chili eating rednecks, wouldn't that be inflammatory?

I'm sure all nine of their fans would get pissed off.

And I'm certain they'd all remind us of how Cincinnati is the "birthplace of baseball" and such a wonderful "baseball mecca" while chanting "1908" and "Bartman" ad nauseum. All the while forgetting that there are few teams that have been more consistently atrocious than their Reds have in the past decade and a half. Cincinnati's such a cowtown, I don't what these clowns are bragging about.

It seems to me that when I go to GABP, the Reds fans there are more interested in trashing the opposing team than cheering on their own. If being outnumbered at your own home games bothers you so much, FILL THE SEATS.

Posted
You'd think a team with the history and tradition of the Reds could fill their park, but outside of opening day, they need a team like the Cubs to come to town so they can get near a sell-out.

Not true. $1 hot dog days and Joe Morgan Bobblehead night always pack the seats with 35,000+ rednecks from faraway suburbs such as Bethel and New Richmond. If you ever wanna see 30,000 white suburban wanna-be thug teens, go to GABP on a $1 hot dog day. Yikes.

It really is funny, though. When the Cubs are visiting Cincy, I'll go to a game and well over 50% of the crowd is Cubs fans. They cheer loud for their team and enjoy themselves. It's typically the Reds fans that are bitter, booing and hollering about "100 more years" as their Reds get their butts whipped by the "Cubbies". And then on the way home, I put on 700 WLW and have to listen to Marty piss and moan about the "rowdy" Cubs fans who take over "their" ballpark and "cause trouble," and I have to wonder if he was even paying attention the whole time. As if Marty would know, perched way up in the booth, no where near the actual crowd. What a classless tool that guy is.

And don't even get me started on Brantley. That guy ought to get a job mowing lawns or driving a bus or something, he doesn't belong anywhere near a microphone. But he broadcasts for the "rootin' tootin'" Reds so maybe it all makes sense.

For a team with such a rich history, shiny new ballpark, and a new manager with such a "winning" career, you'd think more people would come to the games.

I can't complain, though. I can go to any Reds home game, buy a $5 nosebleed, and have my choice of pretty much any seat in the house.

So somebody tried to throw a beer on McClouth today (and missed by a foot) during Fukudome's triple today, just confirming the fact his comments were right on.

Did anybody else hear his interview with Sliverman and Waddle today?
