Let's see if Pie and Fukudome, should they get on base again, realize Jason Kendall is catching. Apparently they thought Johnny Bench was catching for the Brewers yesterday.

Or they thought the dirt was too messy to take advantage.

Don't lose this game tomorrow, Cubs.

I will have to listen to more Brewer fan boasting if you do. That would be un-fun.

Exactly. I don't know if people who are criticizing Pie and Fuku for not running on Kendall, didn't realize this, but the ground was NOT exactly prime stolen base opportunity. That maybe one of few times in which nobody steals of Kendall. But if the ground is dry on Wednesday, i can almost guarantee you, that anybody and everybody with good speed on the club (Pie/Fuku/Theriot) will be given the green light to steal.

not to mention that Soriano never got on base and Pie only got on in the 9th, where there were 2 outs

Theriot + Soriano 0-10, no walks & 4 k's. Brian Roberts 2 hits & 2 walks...on base 4 times. Our inabililty to land Roberts early in the offseason when we had a chance will haunt the Cubs all year. At this point our best leadoff option is fuko who led the spring in walks. Who bats second is anyone's guess but Soriano should be in the 5-hole.

and since Theriot+Soriano will bat .000 for the rest of the year and Roberts will bat 1.000.....

Yeah because we know that Brian Roberts would have gotten two hits and two walks against Ben Sheets yesterday. Your logic is utterly ridiculous.

it isn't ridiculous

sheets was on yesterday sure...but are you telling me that inserting roberts instead of theriot would have made no difference at all?

come on

It could very easily have made no difference whatsoever.

It's possible, but what what about the at-bat in the 10th inning? Whow ould you rather have head leading off the bottom of the 10th; Theriot or Roberts? Maybe Roberts go down with ease, but atleast with Roberts there is a threat of him going yard, or going gapper. There is no such threat with Theriot.

I feel very confident that he would have found a way to get on base & even one time might have been enough to get a win. I say this based on gut feeling as well as historical stats. It is very clear that Roberts is much better than Theriot & based on on base percentages alone, he is also far better in the top position than Soriano. I know Hendry gave it the old college try but I think our failure to land this critical need will be one of the main reasons the Cubs will go no further than last year...if even that far.

statistically speaking, Roberts would have had a 1.3% better chance to get on base than Theriot, and that's without looking at how Roberts has hit against Sheets

Yeah, Roberts the Cub would get a hit when Lee, Ramirez, Soriano et all failed to do so (oh, right, Lee had one and Felix legged one out). Brian Roberts is a magical creature who apparently gets on base at will.

Roberts, Theriot, whatever. The CUbs only had one chance yesterday-8 Fukudome clones.

The only chance the Cubs had yesterday, was to have a "better gameplan" at the plate.

If the Cubs get Roberts, he makes the Cubs a significantly better lineup.

He's still going on about this!? HAHAHAHAHA

Ducking out of work for the game tomorrow. It's win-win(-win) situation. If they win, then they won. If they lose, well the Cubs always lose when I go to games during playoff seasons.

yeah...i am still going on about this. What's your point? It is really obvious this is a missing link in the offense. The top two positions in our lineup are dreadful in terms of plate discipline/getting on base. Fuko will be there at some point & Soriano will drop to 5th.

We've been through this roughly a billion times. He makes the Cubs a better lineup if DeRosa shifts to SS. If Theriot's still at SS, the upgrade is marginal.
