-How did we not win?

-Fukudome is my hero

-I hate how the Brewers get these players that suck (Counsell) and they succeed (similar to the Cardinals magic)

-How do you NOT run on Kendall? Did we not see that guy and his 0% throwing last year on our own team?

-I am not worried about Wood

-The Bob Howry inning was about as predictable as it gets

-It's one of the great injustices that Eric Gagne is going to have a 18764.45 ERA and he has more wins than Big Z

I wouldn't consider it an injustice as much as it's proof that wins is a stat that has no place in competent discussion about quality of pitcher.

This game was complete bullcrap, with the obvious exceptions of people named either Carlos or Fuku.

Agreed.

Why isn't there reason to worry about a pitcher who still hasn't learned to hit his spots by his early 30s?

Wood at closer is a bad idea.

the same guy who had no walks in ST, and, iirc, 1 walk in the last month of last year?

Aside from Theriot I liked what I saw at the plate today from the entire Cubs team. Sheets was dealing. Z and Charlie Marbles were outstanding. Wood pitched poorly, but I don't expect outings like that too often.

Shake it off and go get them on Wednesday.

Wood always had a fairly high walk rate when he was a starter. He also gave up a fair amount of home runs when he got a lot of innings (unlike a Z for instance who also walks many batters).

"Effectively wild" has summarized a lot of the healthy parts of Wood's career.

He also has a tendency to start off cold.

Look at his splits by pitch count for his career:

1-25 pitch count opponent OPS: .718

26-50: .646

50-75: .688

75-100: .687

100+: .591

I'm not saying he's not any good. But a high walk rate and high home run rate pitcher who has exhibited a need for an inning or two to "settle down" throughout his career isn't exactly the shutdown guy I want at the back end.

Wood won't be horrible but he's going to make me reach for the antacids this year.

I'm more worried about Howry than Woody. Not because I don't think Bob will get it together, but because it seems like it's July before he does, and I don't want to wait that long.

Was at the game. Fukodome was awesome.

More and more fans bother me every time I go. There were boos after the top of the 9th, boos after the top of the 10th, and a group of girls got to their seats behind me in the 8th inning (!) then left after the Brewers scored 3 with one of them stating "Well, we lost." Many fans left after the top of the 9th, but a fair amount even left after the 8th. I don't expect all fans to stay for every inning, but it's Opening Day with Lee-Ramirez-Fukodome coming up!

Booing Kerry Wood after one inning and after everything he has meant to this team is despicable.
