Was at the game. Fukodome was awesome.

More and more fans bother me every time I go. There were boos after the top of the 9th, boos after the top of the 10th, and a group of girls got to their seats behind me in the 8th inning (!) then left after the Brewers scored 3 with one of them stating "Well, we lost." Many fans left after the top of the 9th, but a fair amount even left after the 8th. I don't expect all fans to stay for every inning, but it's Opening Day with Lee-Ramirez-Fukodome coming up!

Booing Kerry Wood after one inning and after everything he has meant to this team is despicable.

I totally agree with what you just said. There are fans like that everywhere.

i don't feel like i am overreacting when i question when/if this team will score enough runs to compete in this division. last year, down the stretch, when they were winning, very rarely did they score enough to feel safe. every game was a nail biter, which is exciting, but i wouldn't bank on that this year. the offense is anemic once again. the top of the lineup features streaky hitters as someone else already mentioned. the middle of the lineup has one guy who can't hit until it gets warm and then if by some magical miracle, the team makes the playoffs, won't be able to hit in october. i have hope for some of the bottom of the order guys, but it just seems that this team has trouble against too many types of pitchers. the ace of a staff, the crafty lefty, the crafty veteran, the rookie. every type of pitcher seems to be the kind that a lot of these guys can't hit. maybe it is the hitters. i can't blame theriot for this one although he'll be the source later in the season. the team just cannot hit that well. in this division, with the pitching that the cubs have, league average offense would probably be sufficient. i personally don't know if they are capable of that. this just looks too much like some of the times last year. i also don't think that the brewers would blow a potential divisional lead like they had last year. when/if the cubs are swept in this opening series (remember that dempster is pitching the 3rd game), the cubs may not be able to get back. i know that i sound like i am taking this one loss to seriously, but the brewers won't collapse the way that they did last year and you can't even expect the 27 yankees to go on a run like the cubs did after lou's ejection. they need to start hitting starting on wednesday. at least show some signs of life.

As far as the first bolded quote, who are you talking about?

As far as the second bolded quote, they were a league average offense last year. What makes you think the Cubs offense would be worse this year?

3 Cubs performed this afternoon. Zambrano, Marmol, and Fukudome. Hopefully a few others will decide to join them on Wednesday.

Ward did a fantastic job today.

aramis. not much of an early season hitter. hits .259 in march/april.

theriot will be playing everyday from the beginning of the season and pie likely will not put up numbers as good as jones/floyd. plus there is margin for error and other teams will put up better offensive numbers. we didn't improve as much as most.

My thoughts on the game:

Sheets, Zambrano & Marmol = really good players

everything else is pretty much noise.

I don't care how good or bad the game is for a hitter, it isn't enough to tell if he's a good or bad player from the results.

Now, if you want to say who had a good or bad game, then that's pretty easy to say based on the box score. The exception I'll give there is Ward, who had a heck of a ph appearance, but didn't get the result he deserved.

My thoughts on the game: NO SMOKING is not that hard to understand.

Standing up for 12 hours with no water, no food, and only 1 bathroom break plays hell with your body.

...Guess i was looking at it from a different side.

Aramis has been up and down in the early parts of seasons. He was good in 04, below average for him in 05, bad in 06, and good again last year. So there really isn't any consistent pattern that shows that he'll be good or bad this April.

Theriot will be playing everyday, but that just means that he'll replace the numbers of Theriot/Izturis/Cedeno from last year. Since all of them were terrible last year, Theriot being terrible doesn't hurt the Cubs any more than last year.

As far as CF, remember that Pie had 170 terrible at-bats last year that really cut into CF production. Even if he's bad this year, he should be better than his production last year, so CF can't be that much worse than last year.

Floyd/Murton turns into Fukudome, and that probably is a slight to decent upgrade.

Finally, the C production this year should be better than the mess of last year, even if Soto doesn't meet expectations.

Aside from Theriot I liked what I saw at the plate today from the entire Cubs team. Sheets was dealing. Z and Charlie Marbles were outstanding. Wood pitched poorly, but I don't expect outings like that too often.

Shake it off and go get them on Wednesday.

Agree, gives sheets his due. I was impressed by him.

Lee with a one year exception is a poor starter. We looked like this at the beginning of last year.

I am psyched about Fukudome. Once Lou gets the line-up fixed things will run smooth.

Anxious to see Johnson at leadoff

Lee has been great in April each of the last 3 years.

It cracks me up when people try to say Lee started out slow last year. Um, right.. haha

At least you admitted your mistake, though.

Roast, I thought I saw you today (based on the picture you posted of yourself in uniform) but I wasn't entirely sure, and I didn't want to start yelling "Roast" and look like a moron. And then of course, there's the problem that I'm just the R-Train, and you're effin' ROAST, the internet legend, and you might not know who I am yet. If it was you I saw, you were taking down the gate around the statue unveiling and I believe I also witnessed you demostrating your 1-2 punch to one of your extremely tall co-workers.
