The Cubs have a workout at 1:00 PM. My guess we'll know something after the workout.

It would suck going into the last day before the regular season not knowing if you're going to make the roster. Pignatello's uncle was at the ballpark with us yesterday (he was part of the law enforcement team talking to us) and he said that to the best of his knowledge Carmen still hadn't received any word.

Marshall needs to go down and continue being a starter. No need to have him sit in the bullpen facing a couple of batters each week.

Agreed, especially since the Cubs will likely use Lieber in long relief anyway. Sucks for Marshall though. He proved he could handle starting duties last year, but the Cubs are apparently dead set against having him in the rotation now.

We'll all know by 2pm CT. Hendry was on The Score this morning talking about the deadline to send the roster info into the League office. It sounded like his pick is Pignatiello over Marshall just by listening to him say Marshall will be probably be needed later to start... My guess is Carmen.

So Hendry took off his shoes and said, this little Piggy went to Chicago...congrats Piggy for making the big team! Keep your chin up Mr. Marshall because I'm sure a spot in the rotation will be opening soon.

This team really hates Marshall

My theory is the Cubs will get rid of two of Marquis/Dempster/Lieber by the deadline and put Marshall back in the rotation.

I rather how Marshall in AAA as a starter, where he is better suited for, then at the major league as a reliever, in which he would be a square forced into a circle. At least in AAA as a starter, he can keep his arm loose, and stretch out in case of an injury.

It's not that the Cubs hate Marshall, quite the opposite, it's there is no room.

Dempster getting moved to the rotation and Lieber/ Marquis being signed created no room.

Dempster should be goneat the end of the season. Marquis is easily a decent trade chip after the season, especially if he can keep his ERA in the mid 4.00. And Lieber is likely to retire after the season. So all Marshall has to do is bid his time in 2008.

Which sucks for him...and the Cubs. He has 43 major league starts of the last two years and is a better pitcher than all three of those guys. It's not like Hendry and Piniella didn't have a choice in moving Dempster to the rotation, keeping Marquis there, and signing Lieber.

When it comes down to it, I prefer Marshall to Lieber/Marquis and Dempster, but right now, what's best for Marshall is go to AAA, keep his arm stretched out,and be ready to be call up at some in 2008. Essentially get ready for 2009. Which sucks for him, but if he stays positive his time will come.

It's not an issue of what Marshall should do. It's about the poor decisions that Hendry has and continues to make.

Always interesting to read people's perspectives on GM decisions.

If Henry didn't have depth on the roster, he would be criticized for not being prepared. But when he has depth on the major league roster and at AAA, he gets criticized for not giving guys a chance.

If Marshall was blowing people away at Iowa, he would take the place of a Dempster or a Marquis. Until then, I prefer having the best players on the team and a few other guys waiting for an injury, trade, or a breakout season.

Yes, but we would have had depth without moving Dempster to the rotation or signing Lieber.

We still would have had Gallagher, Hart, and Marshall for the last spot

I think Hendry was going to move 1 or 2 of the young guys for Roberts and a righty CF so that's why he did that imo.
