Always interesting to read people's perspectives on GM decisions.

If Henry didn't have depth on the roster, he would be criticized for not being prepared. But when he has depth on the major league roster and at AAA, he gets criticized for not giving guys a chance.

If Marshall was blowing people away at Iowa, he would take the place of a Dempster or a Marquis. Until then, I prefer having the best players on the team and a few other guys waiting for an injury, trade, or a breakout season.

While I do not agree that Marquis and Dempster are better than Marshall, I agree this is a good problem to have. Some of you guys want to have it both ways.

Marshall will be back after one of these guys gets moved, likely Marquis.

This team really hates Marshall

My theory is the Cubs will get rid of two of Marquis/Dempster/Lieber by the deadline and put Marshall back in the rotation.

Some of you are forgetting that one strike against Marshall is that he's a lefty. Lou doesn't want 3 lefties with similar stuff in the rotation. I think somewhere down the line you will see Marshall traded.

It's pretty easy to move Dempster back to the bullpen. It's not like getting extra rotation depth is irreversible.

I rather how Marshall in AAA as a starter, where he is better suited for, then at the major league as a reliever, in which he would be a square forced into a circle. At least in AAA as a starter, he can keep his arm loose, and stretch out in case of an injury.

It's not that the Cubs hate Marshall, quite the opposite, it's there is no room.

Exactly. This was the right move.

Well said, Red. My thoughts exactly.

On top of that, Piggy outperformed Sean this spring. This is the role Carmen has been groomed for. He had 45 appearances in relief at AAA last season and did quite well (40 hits, 44 Ks, 16 BBs in 49 IP).

If the Cubs lacked a decent loogy option on their 40-man, then they would have to convert a starter. But they don't...

Cubs won't go with three lefties in the rotation again.........

Nope, I don't believe it. The reason why Marshall isn't starting is because he's a lefty. And apparently to Lou and Hendry having 3 lefties with similar stuff is a no no.

Agreed. I like Marshall, but when you put him right after Hill in the rotation its like watching mirror images of each other. On any other team Marshall wouldnt struggle as much I think.

He didn't struggle last year.

I like how you say this like it's too much to expect to have rotation depth and have the best players in the rotation.

He didnt struggle, but he would be more effective with not having someone like Hill in front of him

All things being equal, yes. But, since the vets are due a lot of money it limits the options..
