Norris Hopper is terrible.

but he's a prototypical leadoff hitter!

Is he gritty at all?

Isn't he black? Because you have to be white and short to be gritty. And it helps if you were a punter at your college.

you can be half-white too. (Derek Jeter)

Jeter is way too good to be called gritty.

shouldn't a prototypical leadoff hitter do stuff like get on base a lot?

no, they just need to be fast and make a lot of contact

So why is Cpatt leading off then?

Oh, that's right, Dusty runs the team.

Dusty did what everyone knew Dusty would do.

One of my biggest surprises in looking over yesterdays box scores was that Ozzie had Swisher leading off.

I didn't hear what Pat said, but I don't see anything about it on Reds.com. Actually, I see a fluff piece on Patterson. Here's a fun quote:

"He's trying to not have that big swing, [just] make contact, do some bunting -- some things maybe he wasn't willing to do before," Baker said.

Haven't heard that one before.

it looked pretty darn good on that pitch, but it was also a belt-high changeup right down the middle

I was watching that game for a while until I discovered the beauty that is the MLB Game Mix

Yeah, Patterson's homer was a good sign inasmuch as it proves he can still hit gopher balls out, but little more.

Thanks. I wonder how he looked on the balls in the dirt.

I'm thinking I only saw 2 AB's from him, and he didn't look any more polished

his K rate was much lower last year with baltimore, and he has only 2 K's in 28 ABs this year. he doesn't walk, but maybe he will be productive enough to justify starting him. i kinda doubt it, but i wouldn't rule it out.

he's kinda hitting the crap out of the ball

If .323/.353/.839/1.192 with 4 HRs, 4 2Bs, and 8 RBIs is hitting the crap out of the ball, yes he is.

He plays amazing defense as well.

he's getting reds fans all excited, so that probably means he'll tear his acl again in june and suck for the next 4 years again.

I think they are already getting his name put on the MVP trophy.
