Congrats to Kansas.

But man, how UNLUCKY was Chris Roberts? If the rim doesn't go all Bull like on him with 10 secs left, then that three becomes as useless as Ozzie Guillen, and Memphis wins it. I have no bad taste about the game, it was incredible, and I don't have bias toward either teams, even tho I did pick Memphis to win. But if I was Kansas I would be a little leary about offering a raise to Self, while he's been a good coach, he's a bounce of the ball in the rim away from having another LOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNG offseason. Kansas earned the vistory after getting a reprieve, but Kansas was everybit as fortunate, as they were good tonight.

I wouldn't any offer anything more then $3 mill per for Self. So, if Self wants to high-tail it to OSU, fine....Kansas could basically land any coach in America, now. But my feeling is...Self stays at KU.

I agree with the last part. I would offer slightly more than Billy D gets, but I wouldn't get into a bidding war with Pickens. Chances are we'd get Calipari if Self left. (TT would explode.)

However, I disagree with the insinuation that we should be leery of offering Self a raise (with the implication being he's not a great coach) and that losing to Memphis would have been some kind of black eye. That team was good.

What I meant was, I wouldn't go beserk on offering Self a big time raise. I mean Self really didn't do anything special, that Williams hadn't already did at KU, except for winning the championship. And while they did win it, they didn't because Self outcoached Calipari. And had THAT Free Throw go down, Self would have another LOONG offseason to explain how another talented KU team could underachieved so much. I would offer a singificant raise, but nothing earth-shattering. I would offer him an offer in the low Top 5-6 coaches in America in America.

If Kansas would've lost, dropping their record to 36-4 and a loss in the National Championship game, that would've been underachieving?

That's where I'm disagreeing, too. Losing to a team with three 1st rounders--including the possible #1 overall--in the title game doesn't qualify as "underachieving so much." We had more depth and a bit more talent across the board, but it was hardly a mismatch. Not many people even picked us to win.

It's been a pretty good year for Snood in terms of college sports.

can't wait for the day you say that about me. I'll take that 21st NC in wrestling, but it would be nice if some of the other programs would pick it up

I've spent a lot of time trying to transfer mojo to the Cubs from this. Here's what I've got.

It had been 20 years since KU's title. 100 since the Cubs. The last time KU had a shot, we fell just short in 2003. So did the Cubs. So naturally, the Cubs will win the world series this year. Right?

But I do agree that Self doesn't mean as much to Kansas as he would to Oklahoma State; KU would simply get another big time coach.

It would have been had they lost to Memphis, yes. When u are one of the prohibitive favorites to win the title, every yr---like Kansas---and fall short of the title, regardless of talent/expectations, it's call underachieving. The regular season record really doesn't matter, outside of seeding in the tournament. This KU team has lost to both I believe Davidson and Bradley (I believe) in the first rd, during Self's tenure at KU. They had not made the Final Four to this yr. If they fell to Memphis, they would have been praised for going further then then the immediate KU teams, but Self would have had to answer questions as to why he can't "win the big one."

I can't stand criticism of a coach because he "can't win the big one" in a freaking single elimination tournament.

Bucknell and Bradley.

And sorry, but that's an idiotic post, and it's an example of how little depth goes into most fans' evaluation of players/coaches.

From Yet Another Basketball Blog:

Here is how the multi-bid conferences fared in the NCAA tournament:

12-5 Big 12

6-4 ACC

11-8 Big East

8-6 Pac 10

5-4 Big 10

3-3 A10

2-2 Sun Belt

4-6 SEC

1-3 MWC

1-3 WCC

Memphis won more games than all the SEC teams combined.

As I’ve been discussing for several weeks, here is how the conferences did relative to the expectations given the seeds they received:

3.36 Big 12

0.89 Sun Belt

0.23 A10

0.11 Big 10

-0.04 Big East

-0.34 MWC

-0.74 WCC

-1.15 Pac10

-1.83 ACC

-1.89 SEC

Duke and Clemson bowed out earlier than would have been expected by seed, hurting the ACC’s ranking. The Pac10 was a media darling all year, but the Big 12 did more damage in the tournament, and it wasn’t just Kansas. Texas and Oklahoma lived up to seed, Kansas St. pulled an upset, and Texas A&M won the 8-9 game. Only Baylor, seeded 11th lost in the first round.

I missed the last 7 minutes thanks to a ton of people calling in last night. I told snood a month ago how I thought Chalmers was the most underrated player in america. Onions.

If it takes ku winning the national championship for the Cubs to win the World Series, I would gladly take that every time. This better happen now...

Wait, so you're trying to tell me that the SEC wasn't very good at basketball this year?

Well, the information that TT provided pretty much proves that. I think this puts the whole argument (for this year at least) of who's the best basketball conference right now.

i must have missed something....why all the Joey Dorsey hate?

He's a goon who for whatever reason thinks he's good at basketball.

goon? is he out breaking kneecaps for the mob?

Not only is he a goon, he's a total moran. Remember last year when Memphis faced Ohio State in the Elite 8? Joey Dorsey popped off at the mouth about how Memphis would beat OSU and how he would dominate Oden. Said it would be "like David vs Goliath... and I am Goliath."

Yeah, Joey, and who exactly won that battle?

He then went out to lay a total egg, and Oden abused him.

I'm pretty happy with the way the BE played in the tournament. As I said in the beginning, no outstanding team but a lot of good ones and every BE team that lost was a tough/close game. Nova lost their big guy just before the Kansas game and that hurt them big time in that one.

There was a watch party at Allen Field House for the game. This is the vid of the place when Mario hit that shot. Pretty Cool.

That's incredible. I've always thought about making a blog dedicated to collecting those type of videos.

Videos of watch party reactions, or just videos of crowds in general?

Because I always loved the center field shot of the crowd of Wood's home run in Game 7 of the NLCS. I can't believe Wrigley didn't collapse.
