Jason Stark said on Mike and Mike this morning that the Giants are having a senior citizen discount sale for their players this spring. Do they have anyone that would help the Cubs?

I don't know if you were joking about senior citizen discount or if you meant that they are only shopping their older players, but I think Cain or Lincecum would look pretty good.

However, even in the Giants current state, and the value that those guys could get, I wouldn't trade them. Well maybe Cain, but not Lincecum.

Those were my words, sorry about the confusion. From what I gathered, most of the players are available.

For those of you who don't already know - San Francisco will not be trading Lincecum.

I figured as much, but they don't sem shy about taking offers for Cain and Lowry.

lowry should be completely off limits in regards to the cubs front office

They probably should. They aren't going to be good for several years, wasting his best, and most cost effective years, and he's bound to be hurt by then anyway.

I mentioned this on 2/21:

After all of the dust settles in spring training, a possible cheap pickup might be Rajai Davis as a backup CF. His stats are good against lefties and he is blocked by Rowand in San Francisco. Not a big move, but it would be cheaper than Byrd or Payton.

Might be a decent 4th OF who can play CF against some lefties.

If the Cubs HAD signed Lincecum (47th rd pick in the 2003 draft), the Cubs we wouldn't be yearning about trading for him.....But doing that what if is a slippery slide.

Going that route, you could also say "What if the Cubs signed Khalil Greene?"

Linecum was a token draft pick of a player who wasn't signable. You don't get a ride to Washington w/out having been seen by others.

Him and his advisor probably priced themselves out of the market or were dead set on going to UW.

Greene was probably a gamble that the Cubs felt they had a chance of signing, but it didn't work out.

Or Matt LaPorta, and Taylor Teagarden, yadda, yadda, yadda.

All I was saying is if people are going to dream about the Cubs trading for Lincecum, then I could dream about the Cubs actually signing him, whne they drafted him.

Remember, Dusty Baker is "managing" in Cincy now.

What does this have to do with anything?

He was making a joke at the expense of Dusty's tendency to overuse and abuse young pitchers into injury.

I understand, I was just having a hard time connecting what Dusty Baker does in Cincy with what some kid does in San Francisco. Ah, I just got it now. I'm stupid.

Yes.

I could see them going for Randy Winn. But of course, the universe is at a standstill until Brian Roberts puts on his Cubs uniform.

If Pie is really going to be given the starters job, I'd rather have Rajai Davis at a much cheaper price for a 4th OF.

oh man we'd have won six world series titles by now and we'd all be sick of winning.
