3-5 days with a broken bone? I'll bet it will be weeks; bones don't heal that quickly.

It's only the very tip of his finger, they claim.

a broken finger-tip is merely the top of a slippery slope towards a pulled hamstring

you start favoring the injured finger and it throws off the symmetry of your body. Later on the opposite hamstring just pops.

Putting aside the obvious potential for innuendo (hehe, he said "just the tip"), yes. That's what all the official releases say and somebody said they showed him in the dugout during today's broadcast, and he had the protective metal cast only on the tip of his finger.

Nah. A non-displaced fracture like that will heal pretty quickly.

Alfonso Soriano's finger was more swollen than expected monday, making a return early this week unlikely.

"His finger was really swollen today," manager Lou Piniella said. "I don't know (how long) -- a week or so. He'll have to tell us. It's going to be a while. It's not going to be a matter of 2-3 days." When they announced the injury yesterday, the Cubs said Soriano would likely miss 3-5 days.

I said this in the game thread, but I currently have the tip of my middle finger broken, and I bet its 2-3 weeks before practicing, and longer before games. There is absolutely no grip strength and lots of discomfort. I am at 2 weeks right now, still splinted, and lifting a towel (insert towel drill joke here) is tough. I can't imagine without the splint. Not to be a downer, just my 20 pesos.

I really have no idea how legit this guy is, but I read his site and he sounds like he knows what he is talking about in general

The Cubs are insisting that he will be out for 3-5 days. This likely suggests that the fracture is extremely small and that the healing process should not take all that long. Regardless of this, I would expect him to have some issues handling the bat for the next 2-3 weeks.

When a bone is fractured, it normally takes 4-6 weeks for it to fully heal if it is non-displaced. So, while he should only miss about 5 days, he will likely have his finger splinted or taped to some extent - thus limiting his finger flexibility and strength

well generally when the cubs tell you that a guy is going to be out for X amount of time, you can assume that he'll be out for about 3X. it's a proven mathematical relationship.
