It's been a week since the school shooting @ Northern Illinois University and not one member of the Cubs have mentioned it at all.

The Blackhawks put stickers on their helmets.

The Bulls are planning a tribute in upcoming games.

And The White Sox will wear NIU caps for their ST Opener.

Even Jerry Reinsdorf wrote a note of sympathy to NIU.

I can't believe the northsiders have nothing to say about this subject, which in my opinion is pathetic. Not one word. It doesn't show any class whatsoever.

Your opinion?

whats the point is it going to change gun laws. it has nothing to do with respect

this is a public issue not sports instead of all this tribute which is not going to help

the familys involved we stand togther to change gun laws thats what they would want

I'm a bit biased, but I don't care. They should have done something to honor NIU.

Not really.

It'd be very nice if they would, but this is something that falls squarely outside of their realm of obligations.

if the regular season was going on, i suspect something would be done. i'm not sure a token gesture made during workouts in Mesa would carry much weight

Exactly. While it is outside their "realm of obligations" the gesture would be nice... but Derwood makes a good point. The gesture wouldn't make much of an impact. And even if they're not outwardly showing it... I'm sure the team has been talking about it amongst themselves.

But what's the harm in making a token gesture?

what's the harm in not making one? can teh wounds of NIU not heal unless Sam Fuld has an NIU patch on his uniform?

When three of the four currently active professional teams in the same city are making a gesture and you're not, it kind of makes you look like a jack@ss.

america has forgotten about what happened at NIU already.

To be fair there's a lot going on. A fire in a US Embassy should, I think, be bigger news than a college coping with the aftermath of a tragedy.

Allow those who have reason to grieve, room to grieve. Doing anything more would be trivial and insincere. Edited by brint

That might be the least legible garbage ever written on this site.

You're right. It is part gun problem, the problem being that we legislated into existence defenseless soft-target areas that appeal to the psychological power-trips of unstable individuals. Remove the power disparity by allowing responsible, trained individuals to defend themselves with concealed handguns, and you've removed the opportunity that causes situations like this.

The concealed carry program has been very successful. You should look into it. I think you'd find that it's a very effective policy, in an age when policy rarely is.
