1.) Willie Mays' catch in the 1954 World Series. I know everyone seems to think this was some sort of miraculous play but I'm pretty sure I saw Nyger Morgan do this 2 or 3 times last year and a countless number of other players do this the past few years.

2.) Derek Jeter's catch while falling into the stands. The guy caught the ball on the foul line and then proceeded to run 10 feet and jump into the crowd. If this wasn't Jeter, it gets a top 10 highlight on Sportscenter and then falls into anonymity.

3.) Derek Jeter's flip. Okay, I'm not picking on Jeter, but seriously, all he did was run towards a ball that airmailed the cutoff man and flip the ball to the catcher. If Jeremy Giambi slides, you never see that play again.

Those are three that I thought of off the top of my head. Anyone else have some?

These plays were all in crucial situations of important games. Nyjer Morgan hasn't played a big game his entire pro career, which is why you're not seeing the attention given it to him as with Mays. I really don't see how Jeter could have stopped himself from going into the stands on that catch, with the momentum he had built up. If so, he's an jackass for intentionally running his face into a solid seat.

Regarding Mays' catch in the '54 World Series, you ought to research the dimensions of the old Polo Grounds in New York. When Mays caught that ball, he would have been 75 feet beyond the center field wall in any ball park that Nyjer Morgan ever played in.

According to Wikipedia, only four players ever hit a homerun into the center field stands at the Polo Grounds after the 1923 remodeling:

Luke Easter

Joe Adcock

Hank Aaron

Lou Brock

The unofficial length from homeplate to the centerfield stands was 505 feet.

The called shot, just because in actuality it probably never happened (Babe loved publicity and in all likelihood decided to play into the mythos later in his life when asked about it).

Buckner. At that point in the game the Sox were losing no matter what happens.

The number one overrated play of all time is that one foul ball that went uncaught about four and a half years ago.

Agreed. It seems to me that ESPN is out to embarrass the Cubs as often as they can. Because I swear every time there is a Cub news on ESPN, they have to show that incident.

Mays was sprinting as fast as he could to get to that ball. He couldn't have been but 10 feet from the outfield wall, which was like 500 feet from home plate. I used to think it was overrated as well until I watched it more closely keeping in mind the dimensions.

Oh....and WHAT the hell is this??

EDIT: Those same punks made a Cubs video that mocks us too:

On the other hand, check out the dimensions to left and right... How did people not hit 100 HR a year at that place??

Mel Ott was a fine player, but owes his HOF status TO the Polo Grounds. It's too bad they don't have road splits from make then because I'd LOVE to see how often he abused that 257 foot right field fence.

JEREMY GIAMBI WAS SAFE

No one will ever convince me otherwise.

You and me both my friend.

same...last i checked you needed to tag someone for them to be out in that situation.

+1

Bugs me when they re-play that one and don't mention the controversy over whether or not he was actually out.
